I don't know how assistants' contracts are structured, but they might be able to be re-worked to put some performance incentives in place with regard to recruiting effort and other measurables in terms of player development. The assistants might be the easiest source of leverage for a new AD trying to make his mark without too much noise. Just two cents from someone who doesn't know what the heck he is talking about!sbsmith wrote:mustangxc wrote:I'd be ok with keeping June around another season if he overhauls the coaching staff. I think he is still an effective coach and can make us a winner in the Big East, but he is no magician. He needs players, just like any coach does and his current assistants are not getting it done on the recruiting trail. I do not know enough to determine whether it is a lack of effort or ineptitude, but the fact is we are not signing the type of players needed to improve our record. If we had a capable backup QB last season and right now, we probably win CUSA. As it stands a bowl game is highly doubtful right now and that is completely unacceptable. We should get to the point where we make a bowl game every season and a a major bowl game once every 4-5 years (major is not limited to BCS games).
You really trust June to overhaul the coaching staff? He'd just bring in more of his recruiting-allergic buddies.
I've read on a few boards that June has full control over his staff. We would need a significant overhaul to see any progress and it would make a lot more sense to just bring in an entirely new HC and coaching staff rather than divide the coaching staff between June's guys and the ADs hired guns (assuming any legit assistants would want to work for June knowing he didn't even want them).
