...seems like you've mentioned that before.
Wait, June doesn't recruit?

Jason- that comment might be true - but the real issue is that he doesn't recruit. He makes no effort whatsoever to get the 'best recruits' here and that has been obvious. In fact, I suspect that he is even very restrictive on letting his coaches do any recruiting. Good example - ED's nephew appearing to be headed to aTm. JMHO
The part where you say "In fact, i suspect that he is even very restrictive on letting his coaches do any recruiting." Obviously, that is your opinion, but I would ask - what would his motivation be for not allowing coaches to go out and recruit? That doesn't make any sense to me...

JB- you tell me. I thought when Phillips came here that we would be doing a lot more recruiting- especially for better quality recruits. The results don't verify that. Also, why is it that our coaches seem to have virtually no contact/relationships with local coaches etc.?

I was happy when I heard that jj was coming here. I had no problem with his O scheme RnS etc. I was only interested in WINS and getting to a top level. I accepted the fact that he had conversations with other schools as that is just part of coaching. However, I could not accept his lack of integrity in recruiting for another school while still employed by us. Since he lost that recruiting class (and Klemm) he has done little to recruit, show that he is truly interested in our university, or try to engage the fans. He has certainly lost any support that I had for him and I don't think I am the only one.
That is the reason I want a new coach who can take us to the next level and will embrace our university and traditions..

Wasn't talking about anything else other than the restricting other coaches recruiting. None of us have any idea of what any of the assistant coaches are doing on any give day. We have no idea what Phillips is up to, other than that there are a few of the current set of recruits that mention talking to him on Rivals. We know about some things he has done for sure, but we don't know what we don't know :).

It would be silly for JJ to tell Phillips he isn't allowed to go out and recruit. So, I doubt that is the case.

How many times are you going to post this diatribe? Nobody new here. Same ol' folks. We get it.

To be fair:

Texas had no one drafted last year and has developed a reputation in the pros as developing spoiled underperformers. All those four and five stars seem to peak at 17 and feel entitled to be pros.

On recruiting, we have been in the worst conference with a poor record of major TV contracts. Two of games (out of town) on networks I have never even heard of were blacked out--why?

We have a record of 25 years of losing and a reputation that "intercity/rural kids can't stay in school". Every school we recruit against uses it against us. I was told we had 7 freshman not allowed to even practice this year due to grade issues. I can't confirm this just what a coach related.

On recruiting efforts I agree with the lack of energy that seems to be there. This comes down to administration and leadership of your staff--the head coach. But, at most schools only 2-3 coaches are heavily involved with recruiting. At SMU June needs to eliminate half of his staff that are not loyal to him through shere laziness. I am not sure about his new coach from Houston. Is it too early to really judge him? I would like someone to chime in that is aware of what was going on.

I do know that a number of so-called recruits that said they had offers and that we then ignored them, when they never had offers in the first place. Recruiting services have no way to really check out the accuracy of what they are told by the recruits themselves until February. They are accurate at the four and five star level, but below that who really knows the truth.

The kid that said we offered (as well as Baylor, Tech, Kansas, K-State and Colorado State) and then that our coaches ignored him was a case in point. Forget SMU. Why did he end up at New Mexico State with all those other offers? Everyone was ready to lynch our coaches for lack of follow up, which in this case was probably completely unwarranted.
