I see Fort Worth International on that map south of where DFW is now. Did they close it to build DFW or did it close before that?

It was still in operation while they built DFW.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

North Park was built in about 1965-I remember looking up my street in Hillcrest?Preston Corridor and seeing grassland and a horse stable. There were the Park Cities and Preston Hollow (in about 1955 throughr 1958)-everything else was basically stables and grassland up to where 635 is today and beyond. Dallas grew east first toward White Rock where the Swiss Avenue streets are. That's why old-time leaders of Dallas went to Woodrow Wilson or North Dallas High School.

In 1955 My freshman roommate had a 1953 MG and we drove all around Dallas on Loop 12. Sold me on sports car and 3years later I had a beautiful 1956 Austin Healey! Best car I ever owned!

I don't remember ever landing at Mechum but I remember landing at Greater Southwest which was on the other side of 183 south of where DFW Is located.

Didn't most of ther big airlines pull out of Greater Southwest about a year after it opened. No self respecting Dallascite would travel to "Ft Worth" instead of Love Field. BTW that debacle is why we were saddled with the Wright Amendment for decades.

From what I remember GSW was a stopover before landing at Love. I only remember it happening a couple of times. This was around the latter part of the 60's, we were traveling between Dallas amd Midland. The big decision was do we fly Texas International or Continental?

Texas International? Naw at the time wasn't its Trans Texas Airlines (TTA) better known as Tree Top Airlines. I remember flying to New Mexico as a kid and stopping 5 times along the way. GSW definitely started as and international airport but wasn't accepted by the Dallas market

The Map is hilarious-see they really did make 5 stops to make it to West Texas

The Brownwood and San Angelo are mapped incorrectly, maybe that is one of the reasons TTA no longer exists.
After taking off from Midland I remember one time making a stop in Big Spring only 40 miles from Midland.

GREAT FIND!!!

I remember flying them from Texarkana (to Love) in the early 60's.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
