It blows me away after 5 years of June Jones that people actually believe we will win our opener.

First of all, this will be the first home opener since 2009 (which we won, although it was SFA). June Jones actually has never lost a home opener at SMU!

Second of all, does 35-27 in Lubbock ring a bell?

We win this one.

Not exactly a sporting group

2008-Texas State
2009-Stephen F Austin
2010-UAB
2011-UTEP
2012-Stephen F Austin

SMU is 19-6 at home in the past 4 seasons. Lot more wins than I realized. Didn't count the bowl game we lost on our home field, though.

(8-15 on the road)

Opener. Not home opener. We always look woefully underprepared in our first game (close game in Lubbock a couple years ago was one exception- and I think we could have looked much better in that one, and won)

We will see. I think our team is going to take a step up offensively and defensively.

Secondary is BCS quality with the two Richardsons and Acker. Montes is a good player, and Parks is a quality backup or nickel back.

Offensive line will have Lowe, Myers, Hughes, Rice, Duhe, and Weeks, all of whom are miles better from a recruiting standpoint than anyone we graduated last year, and they should be ready to contribute, along with Walling, Briggs, Chamagua and Reich. We will find three starters out of that group and improve on the line.

Defensive line, same thing. Minor, Wood, Smith, Nabuishi, Spencer, and Conley are all better recruits than what graduated, surely we will find two from that bunch, and that doesn't include the former walkon Barnes who played a lot last year. Wright and Reed were both better recruits than Pitt, and should be ready to play.

LB we graduate a lot, but we have 9 players on the roster who were bigger recruits than JD. There is a lot of talent to choose from.

I think the players are here, and have been on campus long enough to be ready to take the program a significant step forward.

And, keep in mind USF and UCONN have been pretty bad the last two seasons. I think our defense is just as good as anyone we will play, so we match up well with teams like those two and Rutgers who like to keep the score down, because we will make enough things happen on offense. More spread, zone read, Qb in the system, depth at RB and a better line lead to a better offense.

Step forward, at least .500, and the 5th straight bowl game.

Yep. Ponies were getting completely shelled in that one before the comeback began.

I'm ready to be surprised in a happy way. I'm hoping for that this year.

our secondary is BCS quality? R-E-A-L-L-Y?
especially when you don't include the games we played against BCS teams!!!
And Our Defense will be as good as anyone we play after losing the best 5 players on the defense?
W-O-W!!!
Seriously sometimes I wonder if half of you even watch BCS games.
Let's talk about that nonsense in October

The only thing that wasn't shaky last year was our running back play...too bad our run-blocking was about as poor as could be...

You didn't like the linebacker play with J.G. and Taylor Reed back there?

Stallion-

Have you decided if you're wearing your red or black Tech shirt for the season opener?

I am saying that as good as we were on the line and at linebacker, that we are very deep at both areas and at the point where we will reload.

Acker, JR Richardson and Horace Richardson are all good enough to play for any team in the big east. Parks is a lot better as a nickel corner where he doesn't need the flat out top speed and can take advantage of his size a little bit. You take those two players out and, yes, we get a lot worse, but so does everybody. Justice and Randolph coming back at safety are going to make us deeper there than we have been in a long time.

What is going to hold us back next year is a lack of playmakers at WR, not the defense.
