You're probably right, but at least Rice has a glorious athletic history and a potentially huge tv market. Tulsa, for all its athletic prowess, averaged less butts in seats than we did last year -- in a town with few other entertainment options and with a ten win season. Their mascot is ridiculously stupid and their uniforms are clearly imitative of Notre Dame, both of which gives them a small time, high schoolish feel.

Their uniforms do not resemble ND and their blue is closer to Pony Express.

Are you referring to their one football conference championship in the past 55 years or 1 sweet sixteen appearance in 1954?

Oh, also there were 5 co-champions only because a&m was ineligible...

So 4-3 earned you that honor in 1994.

Ah yes, the "throw Tech a bone and let them finally play in the Cotton Bowl" year.

Listen, I hesitate to continue to bag on Tulsa, but I'd like an explanation as to which of these statements is ridiculous:

*Tulsa has no football history on a national consciousness level and spent its formative years in the Missouri Valley Conference

*Tulsa has real problems filling seats at Skelly, even with ten win seasons and top 25 votes -- and most importantly no entertainment competition on Saturdays whatsover

*The "Golden Hurricane" is about as junior league a team name as could possibly be conceived

The mascot, Captain Cane:
