I guess I just think that more than 15k SMU fans will come out for the home opener against an old SWC rival, and after a bowl (blowout) win over Fresno. Hope I'm right!

I'd be willing to bet than 90+% of people on the boulevard for the next game would not be able to tell you who we played in the Hawaii bowl last year.

It could be 80% SMU fans and that might still be the case.

Oh, no I meant 90+% of those supporting smu, in response to someone saying a bowl win would bring out the smu fans for the opener

Guys, I have a problem:

My Sperrys and sunglass strap which holds my either neon orange or neon green Wayfarer ripoffs are both leather, and my Smathers and Branson whale-embroidered belt is baby blue. Also, all I have are seersucker shorts and pastel polos. Why doesn't Culwell and Son carry any SMU stuff???!?!?!

I think tech may have the majority for this game. They will be out in droves for slapbury's coaching debut.

Maybe..but a significant segment of the SMU fans..the 60% you speak of...are blue-hairs that bail early and get upset when people get rowdy and cheer for the Mustangs. We need more youth in the stands cheering for SMU! I am thankful the older generation shows up, but 60-40 in SMU's favor doesn't really mean much when 20% are blue-hairs that bail in mass half way thru the 3rd quarter no matter what the score or how exciting the game is. It's understandable at their age that they gotta get home to put on their satin slippers, take their Nytol and get to bed...but the Tech fans will be chanting. Again we need to add more youth in our stands!

I do not think the older crowd leaves early in any higher percentage than the rest of the crowd. Plenty of parents with young kids who bail early too, among others. As a percentage, I think the students are more likely to bail early than just about any other demographic group.

Any visiting team that wishes to play in black in August--the sun will still be up at kickoff time, is welcome to and "nuts".

I agree Grant...you are at least partly correct....we seem to have a crowd fan base that no matter what the score....no matter how exciting the game is they bail. It can't be to avoid some horrible traffic. They bail if we are losing, they bail just the same if we are winning....they even bail if it's a close high scoring game coming down to the wire!

I think it was against Navy a couple of years ago...we were going into OT, and at least 10-15 people around me got up to leave. I actually asked them why anyone would do that, and they just gave me this shrug like, "whatever, we don't really care either way".

And that's why our fanbase sucks.

We have always said we need better athletes, well we need better fans too, the people

around us show up late, wear anything but red or blue, don't cheer, and then leave early.

I for one do not get the black jersey thing and hate the idea.

It makes sense for a school like Georgia who actually has Black as one of their colors.

I similarly don't like June wearing black on the sidelines. I firmly believe that the head coach of all people should be wearing school colors.

The last time we wore black we looked awful during the game.

If anything I would love to see us wear blue. I think the blue jerseys look great, and here's a novel idea, they're school colors!
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

Potential is nothing, performance is everything.

For what it's worth, there are coaches at a lot of schools who wear unorthodox colors so that when players look to the sideline, they can find the coach quickly. Jones wears black sweats with SMU logos at practice every day. There were times (maybe every game — don't remember) when secondary coach Derrick Odum wore a green golf shirt on the sideline so the DBs could find him. There was a time years ago (either Bennett years or Cavan years — don't remember that, either) when the linebackers coach wore white gloves on the sideline so his hands would stand out against the wall of red jerseys behind him while he signaled in calls from the sideline. Happens at other schools, too. It's not coaches being dismissive of school colors, but simply trying to be clearly visible on the sideline.
