dream long shot scenario is A&M and Arkansas can't deliver the DFW market for the SECN. Suddenly, SMU is deemed necessary for SECN subscriptions. Arkansas agrees b/c they want more games in DFW for recruiting purposes. A&M agrees as they reason SMU getting the SEC shine is worth losing the only SEC school in Texas status b/c it eats away more Longhorn recruiting power and forever blocks any entry by Texas into the SEC.

ATM delivers way more of the dfw market than we do.

Well I did say it was a dream scenario. Never said it has a chance.

Our best case scenario is we start reeling off 10-win seasons and justify inclusion into the Big 12 if they expand back to 12 teams. This is a longshot, though.
I think the more likely, yet still desirable scenario is TX, OU, OSU, and TT leave for the Pac-12 and we join up with TCU, Baylor, KU, KSU, etc

That's even funnier than the "SMU to the Pac-12" junk that has been spewed around here. I especially like the part where SMU is supposed to eat into Bevo's recruiting power

the truth -if we had any hope for P5 inclusion would be in order:
1. Increase seasson ticket sales to 20,000 and attendance 28-30,000 per game
2. expand Ford to 42,000
since we are making no progress toward No. 1 there is no reason to consider No. 2 because we aren't going to be P%. The June Jones era will end in a no progress over his last 4 years on attendance.

Ford can already accommodate 36,000+ with standing room on the lawn, making it bigger than P5 stadiums at Washington State and Duke and comparable to Vanderbilt Stadium in the SEC. There will probably never be any reason to expand it- if we ever got into a bigger conference and were playing big teams like Texas or OU or Arkansas we could just move those games to the Cotton Bowl or Jerryworld.

Considering it is also a year in which there will be renegotiation of TV deals for the P5 conferences (SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12) it is the perfect moment for SMU to demonstrate its competitiveness both inside and outside the field.
These are just several ideas I have been thinking we could do to increase attendance to games:
SMU needs to build its fan base and establish an average attendance of at least 30,000 people at home games on average - There are many ways to do this. We have to make going to the game a fun affair. Beer and wine will have to be allowed in the stadium, and we have to figure ways to get our fraternities and sororities to bring their entire chapters to the game. (What I have been thinking is we could condition them having a tent on the boulevard with attendance to the football game. If you want to party in the tailgate, you have to go to the game). We also have to come up with creative ways to make the stadium experience fun in itself.
Why don't we get a loud truck/boat/train horn to celebrate our touchdown drives (possibly have it installed in a van and take it with us on away games too) and when our team gets in the field at the beginning and at halftime (TCU has a train horn which really pumps up their crowd everytime they score, Louisville and other schools do this too). This can be done by a group of alumni and I think it will be liked by our fans.
Maybe a train whistle every time we have a first down? Also have we thought about having a standard set of cheers and yells that our home crowd can easily learn and repeat in every game? Everytime the enemy is on third down have the crowd be loud? There are many ways to get our attendance levels up there.
These are just several ideas that we could execute at low cost and start moving towards our attendance goals.
In my day ( 60s ) we used a canon to celebrate TDs. In fact the canon got us in trouble in 1964 when we beat #2 rated Navy and Roger Staubach. The canon was double charged and aimed at the press box in the Cotton Bowl and about blew every piece of paper, telephone and typewriter off the various desks.

We have to OUTMATCH THIS!!! SMU NEEDS SOMETHING LOUDER THAN THEIR HORN!
