The road white unis with the no stripe pants looks horrendous...no idea why we dropped the stripes...our pants look like an afterthought...

I like em. Very clean. To each their own; there's plenty that looks like an afterthought- I don't think the pants are one of them. Need white socks with them though, not black.

I agree, our pants need stripes.

This is one of the most pointless threads I have read anywhere on the internets. Not sure about you guys, but I can think of a hundred things about which recruits should be more concerned...like how to read a wide receiver reverse pass, for one.

Not saying it is the only factor but it is a factor as the article suggests. To totally ignore it would be like denying evidence. But if we can't afford it we just can't afford it until it is time to get new uniforms.

We really do need a "fashion" forum on this board

if you think this doesn't sway recruits to particular schools, you are hiding your head in the sand.

Our own players (Burcham, Minor) are concerned enough to tweet about it, asking for alternate unis and such. These are kids that are here already - so obviously, it isn't just a recruiting problem. It is also a mater of keeping our current players happy as well.

if we don't have the $ - fine. That stinks, but it is what it is. If we can somehow afford it - this is something we just have to do.

Get with it. It is not enough anymore to say "you play for SMU. that should be good enough." Kids from Texas have options to play anywhere from Oregon to Miami. We are in the minority in that we have no alternate helmets or jerseys. Kids love this stuff.

Perhaps with a 'new regime' next year we can have alternate & retro unis?

If the new regime is worth their salt then they'll insist on it.

I'm a fan of the away white "Storm Trooper" look. Would much rather have that as our home color over those awful red uniforms- terrible.

Bring back the blue.. and make red alternate.

UH admin is auctioning off the uniforms and helmets to pay for it. Jerseys start at $150-175 and helmets at $800. The video of Levine's unveiling on the uniforms shows that the players really like the alternative look.

Thanks in large part to private school tuition, SMU's AD deficit is much higher than UH's. In 2012, just 22% of UH's revenues came from the state. That's down from 49% in 1992. Student support is making up the difference.

I vote for SMU blue, which was worn vs. Rutgers, but in that case stick with blue outs by the fans. Too many red, white, blue outs.

Blue uniforms, white pants with stripes, white helmets same as now. No funky number fonts, just keep it real. Big block "SMU" letters across the front.

Then, have one funky chrome helmet, tricked out, spaceship suit uniform for one game a year that the recruits will like. Maybe have it say "PONY UP" down the side of the pants in funky letters, with crazy numbers and the outline of the state of Texas on the shoulders or something. I don't care, make it rad as hell.

Finally, one alternate "throwback" uniform to wear for the homecoming game each year. Something like this, but with a facemask of course:

Problem solved. Someone send this to Rick ASAP

Excellent - sbsmith!!!

Well said - East Coast. What better time for a retro uni is with homecoming if nothing else.

You are high if you don't think cool Unis that young football fans and recruits like is not a big deal.

All my nephew and his 8th-9th grade friends talk about is Unis and Helmets.

A great mix of Unis is needed, and I don't mean once a year Alternate.

Players want it, they gravitate towards the new Unis. It's a fact. I love the traditional myself, but I also love getting good recruits to build a program. This needs to be a priority.
