I have received updated information from the band director. Not sure if anything changed or if I just received wrong info to start.

The rendering says the band was supposed to go in section 100, directly behind the basket. Instead, they will be in the next section over, Section 101, which is still technically baseline so they will be in the lower bowl. Not ideal for free throw distraction (unless they fill 100 with students who will do something coordinated a l a Duke), but within the lower bowl, so I will withdraw that portion of my complaint.

Also, I have now been told that the Bank will get 51 seats rather than 35 (not sure if that is the entire Section 101 or what.) I still maintain that for big games, you want the whole band to be able to come as has been the case in the past, and the better option would be to seat the band in Section 100, but have them only take up as much room as needed depending on how many there are, and fill the remainder with students, visiting recruits and their families, and the like, which is what Duke does with the other half of the baseline bleachers next to the band (or at least did when I was there).

Hope to see a full section of Mustang Band for the grand re-opening of Moody on January 4, 2014. All members need to be back on campus for this one. It will be a full house and we won't have a second chance to make a good first impression - for all the first-timers in attendance. I know everyone appreciates the loyalty and sacrifices of the geriatric band, but we need the real deal for this game. This is a big deal and it needs to be handled as such.

I think we should see if the band can play "Peruna in a blue dress".

And wear rugby shirts with red and blue horizontal stripes.

Most t the band guys are pretty small, so just give them two tickets per seat and let them figure it out.

So bottom line - this was a complete overreaction based on wrong information?

Glad it got updated/fixed/whatever. And you were right that during my and your time at Duke, the Duke band was larger. It has shrunk due to the pressures of needing to fit in more special guests (not more students).

When they had regionals here the band sections were very small. Could have been 35 but I would have guessed even less.

I think it needs to go to 5. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
