Look forward to an extra year or two of 6-6 and 7-5 records, and 5th/6th place bowl games

UCONN, Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, and soon SMU would be at the top of any power conference in basketball.
UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, SMU, ECU, would struggle to win a couple of games in any P5 conference in football.
Moreover, couch'em said "north east basketball school model" so the location is not relevant, the model is.

Football drives the ship in expansion. If the conference or school goes to a basketball model then we are probably done in being considered for a P5 conference when the next round of expansion starts.

So the difference between this situation and what I heard two or three years back is that June is not going to leave money on the table and head back after this season. And we (i.e. the CoC) are not going to pony up two mil plus another two mil for a new guy for 2014. One more year of June seems to me. I'm ok with that as long as there's a good plan to jump start us to that next level. But then again I don't have an irrational hatred of June Jones just because he doesn't wear socks or blue blazers.

The ill feelings do not come from socks or blue blazers but how he treated SMU during the entire ASU mess.

No doubt, and I think the conference is trying to do what it can to minimize the current gap, but for now that is what we are and I'll take mediocre football and great hoops over mediocre in both. Hopefully, every team gets its act together so we can become the conference we all want to be in.

Would you have tried to leave a CUSA school with a bad cultural fit to go to a PAC12 school with a much better cultural fit? Does it help that you'd done your part to turn around a long-moribund program -- i.e. you'd in good faith done exactly what you'd been hired to do? And that ASU needed exactly those services? And it was not JJ's fault that that thing fell apart. It was Steinberg's
Seems to me we should have long ago forgiven and moved on.

You can't take mediocre in football because that is the main factor. The pressure should ne on the football team to improve and not have the hoops team carry the load while giving the football team a free pass. Duke decided to stop doing that stuff s few years back and it has paid off. Granted. the JJ supporters probably want JJ back regardless so some use this argument.

Nobody wants June back. Where are these JJ supporters?

It's not leaving but how he treated us. Please read what I said. No problem with him seeking other employment but don't treat your your current employer like a dog while you are doing it. Recruiting on our dime etc. If his own son said that we were a crappy school what do you think he thinks about us? People that love SMU don't want someone here that has that attitude about SMU.

Again you leave your current employer with class when you leave. I don it done too many times. He did not conduct himself very well during the ASU mess.

ASU is over. If we were going to fire him over that (which we should have done IMHO), we would've done it years ago.
The reason we all agree that JJ should not be extended is the total lack of recruiting or the hiring of a staff that is capable of recruiting high profile players (aside from JP).
Speaking of, I have no idea why Jason Philips decided to come to SMU, but I am sure he will be leaving after this year - especially with Mumme bascially vulturing his role on the staff.
So again, just like Klemm, we probably lose our best recruiter this year and maybe we lose the players from his pipeline at Lamar.
You think this can't get worse? Oh, it can - this is SMU football after all.
