Yes, next year's coach is going to a BCS bowl this year, you do not want to make it public until after it is played!
Yes, a BCS bowl coach will want to come to SMU... FTHP, do you ever stop sputtering bullcrap?

I believe so, yes.
He was not in attendance at the 2011 edition of the NYC event, which coincidentally happened in the throes of the ASU debacle, and was also on the same day as the SMU to the Big East announcement.

If JJ is having trouble getting a flight, I know a few of the CoC folks normally fly up for the NYC event - and they don't fly commercial. Maybe he can hitch a ride on one of their jets.

But I agree, Wednesday night will be telling. The invite for the event only says Hart is coming, a question I raised back in November. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68611

After I received the invite for the NYC event on 11/4/13, I replied to the email and asked why JJ wasn't on the list of special guests. Here's the response I received on 11/7/13 from Debbie Mulvenna, Director of Operations, Athletics External Affairs:

Coach Jones is absolutely planning to be there. We opted last year to promote the appearance of our new Athletic Director and just followed the same format this year. Coach Jones is excited to be there with us.

So who knows. For those who are interested, I'll post some comments on Twitter from the event. My handle is @austinpkilgore http://twitter.com/austinpkilgore
Could you email her back and ask her if that is still the case.

How can June Jones not be able to find a flight to New York,
but Rick Hart, Bob Sharp, and other glad-handers can find a flight?

Have you ever tried to search for a flight on an overhead projector? You wait around forever and nothing ever comes up!

The lamp burned out. He has now way see what the projector comes up with.

I bet a CoC member will attend this event....
why couldn't June catch a private jet flight with one of them?

like Stallion says....it could be a good sign if June is not there.
if June attends the NY event....it would pretty much mean he is here next year.
if he doesn't attend, there is a chance he's leaving soon.

BRStang wrote:I remember during the last coaching search there being some SMU policy that requires any job opening to be advertised for a minimum number of days. I'm guessing, if true, it has something to do with EEOC compliance. But I definitely remember the internet gunslingers on here last time saying the minimum day advertising was a requirement of SMU for any position.
A formality. A coach could be negotiated and agreed to prior, just not official. I dont think it means you can't talk to agents prior to advertising.

Without being sarcastic. What if he just doesn't want to go? It's not like Rick Hart can physically put him on the airplane. Why is June making his own airline reservation instead of it being done by the athletic department?

Maybe Larry Brown wants to do some NYC recruiting. Jones could hitch a ride with him.

Please NO! Need to keep them apart. Don't want to take any chances of LB catching what JJ has.
