Great west coast sweep. Unbelievable turnout for a three day, three game trip. The game was sloppy for much of the first half - understandable for SMU since it had been a tough three days. SCU is a good middle of the road team with strong poles. SMU defense is very good and held the Broncos in check for much of the game. The Mustangs run much of their offense through the midfield but I was impressed with the attack's ability to finish at the goal. All in all a good game. They could go to the League championship and possibly to Nationals with this team (either this year or next since they are so young).
9-0 mustangs have two weeks off before they take on #18 Texas state.
SMU gets kids who could have gone D1 but wanted the real college experience.
Texas State gets kids who went D1 and couldn't hack it, so they transfer. It'll be an interesting matchup. States leading scorer is aCanadian, Bellermine transfer that hung ten goals on Tennessee.
One never knows how we are going to play Texas State. They certainly aren't better than Cal Poly.
SMU finished the year at 13-2, losing to Texas in the conference semifinals 11-7. Texas went on to beat Texas State in the finals and has drawn the 10 seed in the conference tournament, which will be in Southern California this year. They will play Michigan State.
1st team all conference: Conner Wasson (Attack), Cole SIsto (Middie), William McDOnald (Defense), Chad Kehoe (LSM)
2nd team all conference: John Tavarez (Short Stick Def Middie), Eric Skeen (D), Adam Connolly (Goalie, led the country in Save % at 71% -- will be an all american)
3rd team all conference - Schuyler Grey IV (A), Thomas Williams (M)
Co-Defensive Play of the Year - William McDonald
This was arguably the most successful season in program history. Well done Mustangs.
We really need to beat UT next year. How can we draw so many good cali and east coast guys and not beat a bunch of Texans? Tired of hearing their lacrosse smack talk.
Watching the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament this weekend really makes me wish we had a D1 team. Is there any buzz or indications that we may have one in the future? It would be a perfect fit for the school and its a shame we don't have a D1 team.
