It is being said he is getting another year with a medical hardship.

Beachum had a pretty good game vs UCF until he was hurt. He will start. My comment was that Colbert could cause defenses trouble due to his speed - an although June is usually too stubborn to try anything new he might next year since there will be pressure to win early.

Not saying anyone on our roster is Johnny Manzel, but take away all of his speed and skills, we need a QB who is confident and leads our team. Johnny Manzel defined the Texas A&M Team, giving them an identity, leadership, and direction.
No one should be given the QB because they are an upperclassman. No upperclassman on our roster has proven that they can truly lead our team. Right now our Football Team has no leadership or direction. Really hoping that June Jones recognizes this and gives Darrell Colbert or Jordan Severt a real shot at starting next season. Pony Up!
I think you are wrong about Burcham.
He played fine in his 5 plays vs Aggie
He led SMU to more points scored than GG in his half of play vs S.Florida
vs UH, he was not the only problem, he had plenty of contributors.
and UCF game, he played well, maybe win that game without his injury.
the job is his, unless a Freshman just flat out wows the coaches in the summer while Burcham struggles. I'm betting Burcham big.

StandUp wrote:One question... Did Burcham play well last year? No. Whether he was ready or not is on him. He got his shot. Let's move in a new direction. Hoping that our True Freshman QBs get a shot.
In the Houston game, he was wretched. So was most of the team. In the UCF game, he played very well.
The sample size is way too small to make a determination right now, except for the fact that he has performed better at the D1 level than any other QB on the roster.
Obviously that's a loaded statement. But against the conference champs he put up 70% completions, and no picks. The team was in the game the whole time he was on the field. Colbert (or any other QB on the roster) may potentially be a better QB, but I don't see how anyone could write him off in favor of an unknown quantity based on his performance this year, and a basic understanding of the run and shoot offence.

Really?!? That would be great! I'd missed that news.

Whoa... Whoa... Let's just tap the brakes for a moment. I know we are all passionate about SMU football, but let's not go scalp hunting on a 20 year old kid just yet.
Burcham's sample size is way too small to determine if he is a flop. I think we might want to wait until we start getting spring practice and fall camp reports before we throw a kid on the scrap heap. He showed growth and improvement from USF to UCF. Let's just wait and see what happens.

What about Cassell? I saw where someone asked the question but I didn't see an answer.

Exactly.
Had he finished the game, I think we beat UCF.
The main issue will be the OL. Gilbert's running ability created a ton of offense the last 2 years. Burcham's inability to run means the OL must get better and he must get rid of the ball quickly.

Pope needs to play LB like he did last year where he was excellent. June needs to go recruit RBs and stop stealing the best athletes from Mason.
Playing Acker at Receiver like June wanted to do this year would have been a complete disaster. Isn't it obvious even June realizes the gaping holes in recruiting his lack-luster recruiting has created. He was actually thinking of moving our only reliable CB from the position that was otherwise the weakest on the team.
Heard shead not coming back

hmm interesting-we just sent out a RB/Receiver offer last week-one that should have been made a year ago if there was an opening for a RB. Coincidence?

Pope would be good at RB. KC should be back healthy as well.
