One theory is that he came out to preempt the real reason why he was about to slide in the draft -- that he is a 255 lbs DT.

If he came out to his teams and coaches last summer do you really believe that the NFL scouts didnt know about it by now? He is obviously not a textbook fit on most NFL defenses, so anyone drafting him would probably be looking at him as a risky pick. If the scouts didnt already know about his sexuality, then the are bad scouts. Having said that, this revelation, regretably, makes it even more difficult for a team to take a chance on him in an early round.

He was never slated to go early anyway. This just allows him to go through the interviews with everything out in the open. Smart move by him I would think.

Agree. But Dale took an obvious stance and as usual sounded self righteous and pompous. They both made calculated moves.

I do not listen or pay attention to anything Hansen says and have not since I met with him over 30 years ago.

This may be unpopular, but where exactly are all the detractors and all the backlash Dale and others talk about? Not that there's anything wrong with it, but pretty much all "coming outs" are usually giant love fests talking about how brave the guy/girl is

Come on RGV. You know good and well it is we white, old school conservatives that hate everything that does not favor the rich corporate world. I mean, when was the last time conservatives in Congress promoted a gay liberal that ran a male prostitution ring out of his apartment? I bet you cannot even come up with an instance where a conservative killed someone, hid out for a few days and then got promoted to even a higher level them he all ready was. We suck.

I thought dale was responding to the sports illustrated article that quoted anonymous nfl front office people as saying it would hurt his draft stock in their eyes.

Of course it hurts his draft stock - nobody wants distraction caused by media circus in the lockerroom.

That theory is spreading false propaganda about the young man. He played DE not DT. ESPN reported he played DE as well not DT. But he will have to probably convert to linebacker in the pros.

I wish him well, happiness and peace. But his lifestyle choice is a dire mistake.

Every bit as dire as SMU selling shirts with a 50/50 cotton blend. For shame!
