Appreciate the civility, Memphis fan. Good luck in the NCAA tourney. Can't say good luck in tomorrow's game or AAC tourney cause I'm hoping we win

I lived in Memphis on 2 different occasions. Very young both times but I still have great memories. After church most Sundays we would pick up some food and go to the zoo and enjoy it and lunch. We would then drive by Graceland and look at all the girls hanging on the gate.
Not everyone has to like every place but for me, and again it has been a long time, I have very fond memories of Memphis. And was never shot at once.
Now I just need Ponyte to keep me out of a fight.

I've been to the Memphis Zoo (although not since late 90s), the San Diego Zoo, the National Zoo (DC), Santa Barbara zoo, and the Wildlife Park in Encinitas. It's not even on the same level as any of these.
Bottom line: Memphis has great BBQ and music. And that's about it. It has very high crime, racial issues, and terrible weather. The best things ever to come out of there are BBQ, the blues, Elvis, and me. And the last 2 aren't there anymore and nothing new musically has come out of there in a loooong time. (and you can FedEx yourself the BBQ and avoid all of it).

Bottom line: you haven't been here in 17 years...if you went in 97, you haven't seen the Memphis Zoo.[/quote]
Let's be honest...the St. Louis Zoo is the best (and it's free)

Not sure which zoo is the best but I will go on record stating that the Little Rock zoo is not.

Not to be a 'homer' for Memphis, but my experience with Memphis as a fan and player is very positive. I am one of the few that has attended every Memphis SMU football game played in Memphis (starting in 1976). I have nothing but positive things to say about each ad every Memphis fan I have encountered.
I attended the Memphis 1st round on the NCAA March Madness here in Arkyland a few years back. Once again, I felt the Memphis fans were a class act.
Sure, there may be jerks and tomorrow I may run into a few but all in all Memphis is a good rivalry to have. good fans, Memphis is plenty fun for a few days if you don't live there and I am looking forward to tomorrow. Two good teams in an important game should be a blast.

Gibson Guitar Factory, across from FedExForum is pretty cool...Sun Studios is fun but quick as the place is tiny.

Sure you were...sure you were...it's like my parents telling folks about Honolulu. Never mind the fact they went in 1989, I'm sure nothing's changed.
I make a rule never to insult someone's home, just because a place isn't for me, doesn't mean it's not perfect for someone else.
I remember hearing the same stuff about St Louis and New Orleans...I had a blast there...everyone said Nashville was awesome...talk about a boring city, but that's just my opinion.
"Memphis State" I love my retro Memphis State stuff...got a signed Memphis State Hardaway jersey that I'll never part with.
"Redneck" I'm far from it...liberal democrat who hates trucks, fishing, and hunting.
I was. I took the first Graceland tour of the millenium - got the silver ticket to prove it.
In all seriousness (I'm serious about the Graceland ticket), I'm just [deleted] with you. There are definitely worse places to live than Memphis. But I left for bigger and better things (Dallas/SMU then DC then shangra la where I am now).
Hardaway, haha. I have an old Keith Lee jersey. Dana Kirk was the man. That was more of my era. (hey, I lived on that campus in a dorm the summer after my junior year in HS while attending Governor's School -- let's just say SMU's campus is a tad bit nicer).
Anyway, good luck the rest of the season other than when you are playing us.

Just want to thank Memphis for inviting 2015 prospect, Elijah Thomas, to visit, so Elijah can watch his 6th SMU game this year. . . Although, first SMU road game

Did Graceland and Civil Rights Museum today. Saw the ducks, too. Rendezvous for dinner later. Lots of signage downtown for the tourney next week.

Gus' Chicken is great...do yourself a favor and check out Overton Square and Cooper-Young...that's where Memphians go, Beale is for tourists (but fun)

Thanks. Was planning on Gus' post-game tomorrow. Any bars stand out? I prefer more laid back.
