Dallas is a desired area or you would not be seeing all the games at Jerry World. If we had any type of competitive team and fan base I think we would be prime picking. I can believe many schools would like to have a game in Dallas every other year for recruiting purposes. But we bring nothing to the table but Dallas, and Dallas is there without us.

The game in 1995 was my first year at the school and was my initial taste of SMU athletes. It was quite an introduction: being from Michigan, and barely of double digit age when the death penalty hit, I didn't know of the school's sporting history growing up. I remember drinking Dr. Pepper in the Cotton Bowl and, as we won the game, thinking "this is really exciting;" little did I know it would be the last (only) win of the year.

LA_Mustang wrote:We have been competitive against non-BCS teams for quite a while, not counting this year. I'm talking about being competitive against BCS schools. I'm pretty sure you count our number of wins over BCS schools in the last 20 years on one hand. In most of the games against BCS schools they have their 2nd/3rd string in during the 2nd half because the games aren't competitive at all.
Actually LA, we haven't been competitive in over 25 years.
The great times during the JJ-era were simply a mirage.
6-32 against teams with winning records
3-19 against C-USA/AAC conference mates with winning records
Almost as many wins against D2 schools (5) as teams with winning records (6)
By my definition, that's not being competitive.

Sorry, I had Vandy listed. That was 1990, before the BCS.
I am pretty sure that we beat Arkansas during the post DP/Pre BCS era. We also tied A&M when they were ranked No. 2 I think?

For the record, 2 of those Arky teams had records of 4-7, while another was 3-7-1; in other words, very down period for Razorback fb.

Games against teams back in the 90's don't really matter anymore. Didn't we beat Texas back in the early 80's? Big time conferences take note!

If SMU were to ever get in the Big XII, half of the other schools in it would bail, just like in the Big East, C-USA and the WAC

Not really. It's our time to graduate and become a high value athletic program.

Don't forget the 4 wins in 2013 when the AAC was a BCS conference. Or maybe just forget those, after all.
