I don't think he will have time to get 10-15 3-4 star players this year but I like your optimism. I just want to see a few more players with multiple P5 offers if possible.

Boise State is in the Top 25 again. While they got 2 4 stars last year, their team is full of 2-3 star players. Their starting QB had 1 offer.

The difference: Boise State runs a modern offense and knows how to maximize production from players. June did neither.

Margus topped out at 8 wins with no conference titles or national rankings, ask yourself why we didn't win more and why our record versus winning teams was so abysmal during his time here. Boise State is an extreme outlier, you recruit like they do and you're far more likely to end up in the outhouse than in the penthouse. The G5 record versus the P5 this season is 12-94, ask yourself why that is and if you really believe that stars don't matter.

Severt is literally a clone of Gilbert. Nearly identical size and similar athletic ability. Morris, being very, very familiar with Gilbert and his skills, should be able to make a quick evaluation of Severt to determine whether or not he warrants reps in his scheme.

Severt had exactly zero offers except SMU out of high school.

Both pay sites said that Severt was better than expected (and Colbert). He turned heads in a good way. They said Colbert was horrible.

One thing to remember: Davis, Severt, and Colbert weren't around for Spring practice. Davis looked lost because he was.

I think Burcham and Cassell will volunteer to leave BTW.

Not sure why you're hammering the analogy to Boise because their model, very similar to the old TCU model, is exactly what we should be hoping for from Morris. We are still SMU, from the non-P5, AAC conference. We are still going to have a difficult time competing against the Big 12 schools in Texas for the 4 star commits, but a class full of 3 stars with offers, combined with Morris' scheme, should be enough to win the AAC, avoid blowouts against highly ranked teams, and possibly wiggle our way into the lower levels of the Top 25, ala UCF & ECU.

Class full of player with multiple offers would be fine reagrdless of the stars. TCU had players with multiple BCS offers as they built there program. TCU was not getting mostly players with no offers while schools like New Mexico State were. Coach Fran said that he tried to beat the bottom feeder BCS schools for players and he did.

TCU is the right model. As late as 2009, they were still forced to take 2-star guys.

But, every year of success eventually led to the Rose Bowl and the B12. They used that success to get 3 stars then 4 stars. Now, they get to beat up Texas on Thanksgiving Day.

Btw - Boykin had 3 stars. His other offer: UTEP.

Wrong, the TCU 2009 class had four 4 star players. twelve3 star players, and just four 2 star players. But the key is they had multiple offers. Stallion talks about this all the time on how TCU did it.

blackoutpony wrote:I was bored over the weekend, so I put this together while hiding from my family and drinking beer. Below is a full list of what next years roster is (as of now) and the players ranking out of high school along with their FBS/ P5 offers.

A few Notes....
1. All the rankings and offers came from rivals.
2. Graduating players were left off, since I'm trying to show what Morris actually has.
3. I tried to change all the years that they players will be, but may have messed up a few with red shirts and such (I wasn't always watching the garbage time during games and am too lazy to look at the participation sheets)
4. I did not include SMU offers in the total offers number
5. I'm really looking at other offers for the players, because as Stallion has said 2 billion times, it really does show what other coaches think about their ability to play at an FBS level as opposed to rivals or scout guys.
6. Please let me know if there are any mistakes and I'll change it up asap.
7. I can't seem to get the spacing the way I want it, so sorry it's a little hard to read.....

Now for some things that stuck out to me....
1. My goodness this team is devoid of talent. There are 88 players on the roster for next year as of now and 48 of those had no other FBS offers. No other college coach thought 55% of our roster deserved to play FBS football.
2. The top offer getter at each position on offense (Davis, Gresham, Gains, Myers) had a total of 65 offers. The rest of the offense only had 46. WOW.
3. 10 out of 18 Offensive Lineman had no other offers and only Seaver Myers had more than two. No wonder it looks like swiss cheese on Saturdays....
4. 7/14 D Line with no other offers....
5. JR Richardson had the same number of P5 offers as the rest of the DB's combined... Which is 2 total.
6. The tiki QB guru recruits out of high school totaled 3 other offers (no P5) and all 3 were from Burcham.
7. Yenga had 5 offers and the rest of the linebackers combined had 6.

This is going to be a tough rebuild. Coach Morris is going to need some time here, because there really just isn't much to work with at all. It's gonna suck, but we need to be patient.

Clearly you have too much time on your hands. Is there a point to all of this? How is this different the the last 5 years? For clarity Prescott Line had an offer from Central Michigan as well. He and I are happy he is a mustang and excited for the future. Let's go Mustangs.

Footballdad and Digetydog,

I think we would all be happy if we got a few more players with multiple offers and a QB that can really run HCCM's offense.

No they really weren't that good nor were their teammates which is why we won virtually nothing of consequence with them. When the talent level dropped even further we won nothing at all. You're right about there being no quick fix to the roster, after all Morris is a football coach not a magician. It'll take time for him to fill this roster with legitimate FBS players so we'll have to take our lumps for a little while longer while we catch up.

42Sparty, his list says:

Prescott Line RS JR 6-0/228 3*, FBS Offers – 1, P5 Offers – 0

Being that Central Michigan is in FBS, but not P5, it seems like he is correct. Unless he has 2 offers, in which case he did leave one out.

I used to live next to Prescott before I moved to Houston, thought I would throw that in.
