Fans and Cheering

Can't blame anyone for not cheering during that [deleted] storm. People need a reason to cheer and that performance wasn't one of them

Can't we all just get along? Let's treat all of our fans with respect. All Ponyfans should be grateful for everyone's attendance (except yell at players-guy).

The Gameday experience needs to be positive for everyone, no matter their expression of support. Their presence is enough to demand this. Just try to be reasonable in your tolerance and interaction. If fans are judging or pressuring others, how positive an experience can this be? Those fans who are harassed and/or made to feel uncomfortable won't react well to badgering. They just won't show up the next time. Not exactly the desired result. All our fans are precious. They need to feel welcomed and appreciated at every opportunity.

as coach Morris has said, the challenge is to change the ENTIRE culture at SMU...that's not just the football team he is referring to. SMU fans will be the more difficult challenge. At least those blue hairs are buying tickets and attending games. That's more than we can say about a lot of our alumni.

We could probably agree that all fans deserve to be treated with respect, but I disagree that all attendance is equal. Look at UNT, we outnumbered them 3:1 and they were louder. If you like to sit quiet and tap your toe to the band, then follow tennis or golf. Football and basketball needs fans that cheer and cheer loudly.

The stares weren't for yelling on 3rd down. They were for the offensive language you used in the presence of women and children sitting in the section.

Yell all you want. Just don't use language you wouldn't use around your mother.

I'll agree that people are pretty quiet, however it's been better in 105 (where I've been a season ticket holder for 7 years) than it was last year and the years before. I've also never been told to sit down.

As for people that have been, I think the culture will start to change and it will become a real college football atmosphere. I guess just keep standing and remind them it's a football game.

I also see nothing wrong with the players interacting with the fans and trying to get people to stand up and be loud on defensive 3rd downs. Have you watched other college and pro games? Pretty sure I see tons of teams do that. Let's look for something else to complain about...

I appreciate your enthusiasm and would like a home field advantage as much as the next guy. When Ford is packed with SMU fans, you can start dictating who stays and who goes. Until then, please smile, be friendly and courteous and say "Hello" to all. All are welcome. All are welcome in this place.

Kill this thread. Seriously. It's ridiculous to complain about fans that have been supporting SMU athletics 4x than some posters have been alive. On the flip side, it's ridiculous to think that attending a game and doing your best mannequin impression is being a complete fan.

Start sectioning off sections for extra rowdy fans and grow that section as young alumni come on board. It's the one and only thing that will change anything. To do anything else is wasting your words.

This. Have yall been to any other big time college football games? Again this is college football why is there an expectation to be all proper and classy. Obviously I'm not saying our fans should b talking [deleted] to our own players even though that happens a lot, but to expect a young crowd to not get rowdy and yell and curse while they are drinking is just absolutely absurd. There is no excuse for unt fans to be louder than us at our own stadium.

There is no correlation between being an [deleted] in the stands and being loud at a football game. I'm always embarrassed for fans of any team that aren't yelling in support of their team. I don't think the best fans of most schools-the Road Trippers for example- do this. Its the pimply assed 18 year old that does it because he wants to look cool and doesn't understand much about college football

The pro SMU atmosphere could be enhanced if the '"cheerleaders" actually led some cheers for the west side crowd to respond to. They have in the past so why not now?

They used lead cheers in front of 102 and I believe 106. Do they not anymore? I have not noticed.
