Successful smaller programs should never stop fighting for influence. Baylor and TCU show the way in these parts. Screw the behemoths.
The behemoths will always be more influential than successful smaller programs because people will follow them even if they're losing. The behemoths are why CFB is so popular.
Again, for the millionth time: if the B12 can get a waiver and play a championship game with 10 teams, why would they expand to 12 and divvy up the TV revenue money more ways, when no potential expansion candidates substantially increase their TV footprint?

SMU built their football stadium 14 years before UH and Cincy did-and it was all privately funded instead of by long term student subsidies. In fact, SMU built their football facility 12 years before TCU and 13 years before Baylor. SMU under President Turner has built a football stadium, Coaches/S & C facilities, basketball arena and basketball practice facilities (among other facilities) in last 15 years which is more than SMU had done in the prior 50 years when the SWC private schools failed to invest in their programs. SMU's facilities rank among the best among G5 programs which are the only fair comparisons. Both TCU and Baylor turned their programs around without new stadiums OR IPF. Those are invalid excuses and Chad Morris is going to do the same if he stays for 3-4 years. We'll probably get our IPF built as a result of his success but I bet he turns the program around before its finished too

not constructive or relevant to compare to a large public school. Its not difficult to raise $ 40 Million by charging student subsidies to 40,000 students financed over 30 years or so or by using naming rights from a company that will benefit from its association with the UH system like a communications company that gets a school wide contract. SMU can't do that. SMU's alumni are going to have to do that just like TCU and Baylor did. Houston is still behind SMU in Basketball facilities which aren't 15 years old as you suggest but are brand new. TCU just getting their Basketball facility finished even though they are P5. Bottom Line SMU will get the facilities their alumni are willing to fund. The IPF would be great-hopefully our alumni Pony Up. Then on to improving the Football facility to P5 standards if that's our goal-if not then why are we comparing ourselves to P5 schools in first place. SMU already funds its Football/Basketball coaching staffs at a P5 level-well above most every G5 program. Facilities are really not our problem-they are very good-attendance and support are our biggest negatives to any consideration for a P5 bid

which we have already completed-they still have funding issues on basketball arena. You are looking negatively about an issue that SMU under Turner showed initiative by pro-actively beating our competition to the punch. Both basketball facilities have been resounded successes. Now get the IPF built but stop [deleted] about SMU doing nothing-because that is bull-shit and its not really the reason Baylor and TCU succeeded and SMU hasn't. There are a lot of positives about what has happened in the last 8 years which have been missed because of a lazy-assed coach who was the wrong hire because he failed to do 1/2 his job-recruit

The weight room is another area that not up to par according to the current coaches. I think they are supposed to add a better weight room when or if we get an IPF.
Not making a P5 conference anytime soon. Fixing attendance issues through winning is first priority. Showing some consistency with what we have is important.
Plenty of opportunity to excel and gain national exposure in the AAC if SMU can field a winner.
Another expansion thread, another kitten died. Have some sympathy for these forlorn kitties. Our chances hinge not on our attendance (although that helps), not on our relationships with other schools, not on our babes, but on what ESPN, CBS, or Fox want, and on our telling Jerry Jones that if he schedules another game with a non-Texas team at Jerry World, the Cowboys will never again win an NFC East title or the Super Bowl, God will judge him for that. Either that, or tell him that all the pharmacists in Dallas are on our payroll and his Viagra prescription can be filled with female hormone pills instead.
