I like the terminology "playoff exempt". Sounds much nicer than ineligible.

Nobody is calling Shake a great PG yet, just a damn fine replacement for Nic, that could easily eclipse Nic as a player. For those wanting Shake off the ball as our two, that's freaking heresy. He's an NBA prototype 1 that was told he'd get to play the 1 at SMU. We may currently bog down a bit when he's running the show, but he's a frosh getting spare minutes in that role. Give him an offseason and 30 minutes a game and he's going to kill people. The offense may sputter on occasion, but he can always get his own, which Nic cannot do.

Kinda sounds like we were good enough to not have to fool with it. An every round bye.

If we go undefeated and ranked No. 1 at end of regular season-one might say that we get a Bye to the Championship

If we were undefeated at year end I would bet they would not have us in the top 5.

Rothstein is great but his tweets are so formulaic.

Posted this yesterday, but Ben's evolution in leadership and maturity is outstanding. He is going to be incredible next year, and I think he is an NBA player.
As for the Shake stuff, two years ago everyone on this board was posting how Nic was too careless with the ball and would never be a true point and how great it would be when EM came in and moved him to a number 2. Now we all think Nic is the best PG ever.
Shake is much less careless with the ball than Nic was in Nic's first season here. A 6'5 guard that can handle and shoot is a great asset for any team. Give us a bunch of 1/2 combos, I don't care. Great to watch. The only special thing you need from a point in this system is someone who is going to have the leadership and bite to take a game by the scruff of the neck and pull it our way. That is going to be what determines if Shake is a 1 or a 2 moving forward. You have to be able to take over a game like Nic or AI in this system to be successful.

The system allows Nic to take over, it's infrequently about Nic iso'ing and getting his. I'm hopeful Shake can actually get his w/in the system and create for himself, which is one of the few critiques I have w/Nic. Great great player, but doesn't drive that well or defend due too height. Not sure Shake will have Nic's intangibles, but he has so many physical tangibles over Nic, it's hard not to be thrilled

What will McDowell and Wilson's roles look like next year (presumably) behind Shake?

Okay this is true! Nic was a sophomore at the time. Shake is just a freshman. Agree it's silly to say he can't end up a solid 1. I'm just saying if he stays at the 2, it's not the worst thing in the world.
