Re: IPF
I talked today with two people in the athletic department, who said the exact same things:
1. What is going on at Pettus is stripping down the field to re-sod it before camps (football and soccer).
2. IPF and soccer construction are one project, and the money is not yet raised. Some schools require 100 percent of all needed money to be in the bank; SMU requires only that 80 percent to be pledged before a shovel can go in the ground - that has not happened.
3. Design concepts have been discussed for both structures but not finalized.
4. The work on the Pettus grass is the same work that has been done every summer.

Re: IPF
Well given that westcott is still being used for events over the summer it's clearly not being built this year

Houston has less % pledged than we do. And theirs is cheaper. That's a fact.
Please... Houston gets stuff done in sports that matter. Plus the IPF is in Herman's contract and they have a press release stating all their plans. We zero official statements and are left with a never ending story of feasibility studies dating back to the previous decade, anonymous forum rumors, and multiple non-committal statements in Straight from the Hart. The truth hurts.

"The University of Houston Board of Regents gave approval Thursday for the Houston Department of Athletics to move forward with the design of an indoor football facility. The preliminary project timeline calls for a design phase beginning this spring with construction of the facility starting in the fall of 2016, pending Board of RegentsΓÇÖ approval of final designs and funding plan."

"ABOUT Guy V. Lewis BASKETBALL CENTER
Located at the corner of Cullen Boulevard and Holman Street on the UH campus, the 53,000-square-foot facility cost $25 million to build and will consist of three levels. The first level includes a dedicated practice court for each program with shared sports medicine and sports performance areas.
The second level will house team areas, including locker rooms and academic/film rooms with the third level designated for MenΓÇÖs and WomenΓÇÖs Basketball coaching and support staffs."
"ATHLETICS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS
This is only the latest capital improvement for Houston Athletics in recent years. TDECU Stadium, the $125 million home of Houston Football, opened in August 2014, while administrators recently unveiled plans for a new 20,000+-square foot, two-level Player Development Center and Clubhouse down the third-base line at Cougar Field.
Track and Field announced $1.5 million plans to renovate Tom Tellez Track at Carl Lewis International Complex, while Football saw the renovation of two practice fields. Houston SoftballΓÇÖs locker room underwent renovations, and the home of Houston MenΓÇÖs and WomenΓÇÖs Golf recently added the Mike and Pat Booker Short Game Facility at Golf Club of Houston in nearby Humble, Texas."
I am fine if they delay building it because they don't have the money. What annoys me is the people "in the know" that keep saying it's coming tomorrow and then insult others when their insider knowledge is questioned.

Re: IPF
Will we have a baseball stadium before the IPF? Men's track? SMU continues to lag.
Lag definition, to fail to maintain a desired pace or to keep up; fall or stay behind.

Re: IPF
SMU needs substantial funding of the football and basketball programs as well as commitment just to keep up with our Texas peers. If they keep up this whole athletics are 2nd place attitude, SMU will be worse than the G5/FCS schools athletically and the academics will soon follow suit.

Re: IPF
The younger generations simply don't care in large enough numbers, the older generation with the real money is dying off. Demographics alone don't bode well for SMU's athletic future.

This...
Unless there is a reasonable product, and a rational strategy to capture (note: not re-capture) 25-40 y.o. alums, the next 10 years are indeed dim.
Mustang Mania is still a reasonable template, although a completely different set of circumstances at that time, and ours now. It captured a group of alumni, and the attention of Dallas, even as the Cowboys were in decline as well.

Re: IPF
You naysayers have been wrong consistently for years. You would think you would get tired of being wrong 100% of the time.
The IPF will get built. We will make that happen. Chad is going to be successful here - it is virtually guaranteed because he understands recruiting like nobody before him since Ron Meyer. Relax and enjoy the ride, or be wrong and bitter. Your choice.

Re: IPF
Not even a bit bitter. I am very impressed with HCCM. I fully intend to enjoy this coming season, and as many more as God allows...BUT;
the comment by fbd is spot on. While the IPF is a necessary tool for future success, that alone will not bring lost generations of alums or the t-shirt fans into Ford. It WILL demonstrate a commitment by the University, but in some minds, it will be sadly too late.
Strategies need to include reaching new fans, not just an alumni base of less than 100k.
