The kids are probably happy they actually get to practice instead of stopping every 11 seconds to get their [deleted] chewed out. LB I thought he was great

Interesting that he was originally only going to be the head coach for two seadons

Sources: #SMU team taking news of Brown leaving pretty well. Team plays it pretty cool in every situation. Team's more relaxed under Jank.

That is good to know. I am really pissed about the timing.

Jank is a good guy and a good coach. I like the uptemp, which was mentioned above, because it will really help this particular team with a lack of size. But I also really like how he switched defenses during the game.

I am really freaked out that he left because he couldn't control the program and has other violations pending. I hope that SMU calls a conference and says they had nothing to do with the timing and that there are no other violations pending. That this had nothing to do with violations. Otherwise, given past history of LB and SMU, me and everyone else in the country are going to assume the worst.

This could be the biggest season in SMU history. If we perform well, it will mean continued momentum coming off of the LB era with future success. If we struggle this season, things could go to the sh*tter.

Larry wanted a five-year extension he's out of his gourd. Tim is ready to take this program - SMU makes the correct move

While I certainly appreciate what LB did for our program, I have complete confidence in Jank and we all need to be thankful we have him. Remember...Jank was the one who brought us Nic Moore and was also the lead Aussie recruiter. Thanks to Coach Brown for all he accomplished but the future looks bright to me as long as we can hold onto Coach Jank. Will be interesting to see if there are any additional changes in the staff.

If Larry wanted 5 more years than yes, SMU made the right move. Jank isn't sitting for 5 more seasons. Or at least I wouldn't. I personally don't a) to lose any of the momentum we have had and b) want to hear about more impending violations.

I'm also assuming that Larry won't throw a bunch of shade in the way of the team. He's preached family above all, now is time to show that you mean it. Hopefully the calls to the players were to solidify that Jank is the man and we are in great shape to do great things.

I love LB, but this could have waited a day. 5 officers were killed 12 hours ago and downtown is one giant crime scene. Pretty [deleted] move if you ask me.

And why wouldn't you give the guy that took one of the most irrelevant teams in the country and turned them into a top 25 program a five year extension?

Jank winning some games with Larry's team doesn't make him Larry anymore than Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnsons team becoming Jimmy. Keep spinning baby......the UNT and Illinois State coach is actually better than LARRY! Yay!!!

Seriously???? I think it would be in absolute poor taste for SMU to hold any kind of press conference today.

As far as live eval period, don't expect #SMU to lay off the trail. Guarantee it'll be business as usual for the staff.

Billy Embody ΓÇÅ@BillyEmbody 2h2 hours ago

I wouldn't say this was coming, but #SMU and Larry Brown's relationship had been strained over the last few months with all the issues.

This was a battle over results on the court versus total program success. NCAA tourney/AAC title vs. NCAA sanctions, going to class, APR.

Billy Embody ΓÇÅ@BillyEmbody 2h2 hours ago

.@GottliebShow and APR situation a total mess. #SMU might miss the NCAA tournament again based off the current situation.

I am very thankful for Larry Brown. He made SMU relevant, regularly sold out Moody, and despite the lack of success created some very memorable moments for SMU. No need to trash the legend now that he is gone. Typical of SMU fans to instantly turn on the ex-head coach. People are not all good or all bad.
