This is ridiculous. Even though most don't go to the games, my former fraternity bros and myself will go to almost all the blvds and mingle in the old frat tent and have a few beers . for a little bit at least. It's a good way for us to meet current bros and see some old friends. If you're telling me that I can't bring a 6 pack with me and have a few cold ones before the game, then everyone will pretty much stop coming entirely.
Over the years I'm usually able to convince several of the guys, who had no intention of going before, to actually come along with me for the game.
This is so stupid, and so SMU, it makes me want to vomit.
What's the [deleted] point? It's just going to make kids stay at the houses and party elsewhere and get even more drunk than they would have all, while lowering school spirit and destroying one of the few cool things we've had going related to our football program for the past 3 decades.

Don't give a rats [deleted] if it affects attendance in ford. The greatest and most visible tradition since the DP has been the blvd. Removing and over-regulating a segment of it degrades the experience.

4. You canΓÇÖt leave or come in to the fenced in area with any alcohol
Can anyone confirm or refute this? Bueller? Bueller? Anybody at the ATO house?
This has been confirmed. MC board and athletics as well as SMU PD have opposed it but it is a Student Affairs issue and decision.
Who are the pansies running Student Affairs these days?

Ding ding ding.
Contrary to popular belief, SMU admin doesn't hate fun, they (and their insurance providers) hate gaping liability issues.

We have a history of being able to look at a situation and then proceed to employ the most irrational logic and kill what works or could given time. IF there was a major issue that had come to light then we should be made aware and IF it demanded something as significant as this ...
My guess is we have some pinhead trying to make a name.

I love SMU more than just about anything on Earth but I just hate the fact SMU will always find a way to be SMU.

Pregame at the houses and get to Ford. Don't let Student Affairs win.
As bad as it is getting to the stadium in the past you know that there will be no participation at the game if they pregame at the houses.
Those that go now will find their way

Email, call, flood them with messages of how stupid this is.
How would the uproar be if you couldn't bring alchohol to the alumni section of the BLVD and had to pay $10 bucks a beer?

Why not build the IPF and let them party and drink in it?

Did you just say assume the position?

That letter has already been sent to the school. They responded and said IFC would have a seat at the table as the discussions advanced but ultimately were never involved. The school went over their heads after promising to include them in the discussions.
Also, just wanted to clarify that the rules in place the past two seasons limit the number of beers you can consume at the fraternity tents on the Boulevard. The wristband you get after verifying you are 21 has 4 tabs on it, which are pulled each time a bartender gives you a beer, therefore limiting the maximum number of beers per person to 4. Cops are in every tent, and the ID checkers identify and take up fake IDs easily. There was no reason to warrant such a change for this coming year, as no problems occurred last year.
Some of you are arguing there is no direct correlation between students on the boulevard and students at games. However, if the boycott does indeed happen, and each fraternity has an additional 7 grand per Boulevard weekend (might I mention they think they can raise the price from 6 grand to 7 this year and pull this crap on us), that money would likely be spent on a bar tab in Uptown or on some sort of event off campus. The odds of the average SMU student, especially almost any SMU girl, taking an Uber to Ford Stadium to watch the game from a bar tab in Uptown arenΓÇÖt great.

^i believe the vast majority here understand and support your position.
I hope that enough of us old farts will make it known that we support the letter that the IFC submitted and that this decision is not widely approved by the alumni donors.
