Re: 7 D1 MBB Assistants Arrested for Fraud/Corruption
The NCAA was never even consulted or told about this until yesterday. This is a completely different game altogether. Pitino's 'bare knuckle fight' may not be over his job but rather staying out of jail.
I'm curious to see if anybody rolls over - anybody work for Nike or get into a bidding war for a player? Anybody looking for a way to strike a deal and have knowledge of other goings on in this arena? This is how the FBI and law enforcement bring down organized crime. I want to see if the flood gates open and we see an avalanche of players, parents, coaches, and administrators from multiple sports and companies come forward and turn each other in.
This may be the biggest chance at cleaning up college athletics in history.

Yeah I bet the FBI would love to hear what Pitino has to say at his deposition under Oath. I predict he will say: "I refuse to answer that question on the basis of my 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination"

May not pass legal muster, but I would think he would say, "On advise from my attorney, I am exercising my 5th Amendment right."Stallion wrote:Yeah I bet the FBI would love to hear what Pitino has to say at his deposition under Oath. 'Refuse' sounds incremidating. Exercising a right sounds like a NFL player.

Or the smart ones may be singing like birds - first one to cut a deal wins. Last ones go to jail. When the FBI comes calling you best be ready to cut a deal.

Heard the rumor that the FBI maybe simultaneously starting a civil rights investigation; as the monies only went to African-American recruits and none to Caucasian recruits. "Impossible is Nothing".

Is it bad that I have a soft spot for USC?sadderbudweiser wrote:Pony ^ wrote:All I know is that the students need to be relentless when we play USC. Perhaps monopoly money everywhere and hundreds of U$C signs

Private School in a large city with rich alums, a smaller alum population that competes at the highest levels of NCAA D1 sports.*
It is what SMU once was - and what I would love for SMU to be once again.
Don't get me wrong - I want the Ponies to Beat them like they were UCONN or Michigan coming into Moody and hope that the MOB gives them a real welcome to Dallas.
EDIT: *only difference is that the greatest player in the history of our program did not commit a double homicide - too soon for the MOB to show up with these???

What USC are you talking about? They are practically the size of a state school. They have 42,469 (19 K undergrad) students.PonyTime wrote:Is it bad that I have a soft spot for USC?sadderbudweiser wrote:Pony ^ wrote:All I know is that the students need to be relentless when we play USC. USC's campus is smaller than SMU which I thought was interesting

My memory is too hazy - USC has double the amount of undergrads than it did in the 90s (as well as double the amount of grad students). They have grown considerably more than SMU over the last couple of decades.
USC has always been larger, but the gap has widened considerably.
Our campus location also beats theirs!

They have been raising money for endowment instead of buildings. Thus the ability to grow and increase quality all at the same time. That - and their sports makes money instead of losing 4M a year.

My brother (Wayne Ferson) is a professor in the Marshall School/Business at USC. They have 3 times the undergrad enrollment that SMU has and a hearty graduate program serving L.A. area but costs are comparable
Re: 7 D1 MBB Assistants Arrested for Fraud/Corruption
Actually, that is not correct. They are on an amazing capital campaign, but only 32% of the money raised during the capital campaign is going to the endowment. The university has constructed many new buildings as a result of the capital campaign. One project cost $700 million.gostangs wrote:They have been raising money for endowment instead of buildings.
