CM haters complain about leaving the team high and dry for the bowl game but he did nothing different than 95% of other coaches do. In fact, Scott Frost coaching UCF in their bowl game was notable for it being an aberration.

The dude wasn’t Ron Meyer and he could have made some better decisions that would have translated to more wins, but to act slighted by him is wrong. He took this team from 11ppg to being on the verge of a top 10 offense when he left.
If you sincerely believed all of the hype and used car salesman talk CM did then I’ve got some land west of Malibu to sell you. This is a G5 school without the resources and glamour to hang with big P5 jobs, obviously he was just trying to get experienced and build a resume to take the next step..they don’t do lifers in the G5 anymore. It was mutually beneficial, he got his big gig and we got our team out of a huge rut and gave the next guy much more to work with. Even if most of chads guys need to be recruited over, the average level of talent across the depth chart is still significantly higher than before he came here. Can’t be too mad about that

Any defensive coordinator With any semblance of an ability to strategize and tactically employ their resources could’ve figured out how to not look like a sixth grade football team who had never seen the option against navy or forced Memphis to run more than literally two different plays in the second half. Or keep Conceding 5-10 rushing yards minimum on each play to James Madison (on the way to 300 plus on the ground) by consistently lining Up without any leverage. Or just any number of games where the middle of the field is always open on third down, defense of backs never press and play up close in short yardage and just allow them to pick up a first down whenever they want, Or the hundreds of times that big play burst because nobody on the defense could tackle or they were so far out of position that they could never close the distance to keep a 5 yard play from turning into a 60 yard play

So like I said, the defense didn’t even have to be good, just not a complete laughing stock. They were wanting for good coaching, not necessarily talent. A lot less talented teams getting much better results than what we have seen on defense the past few years. Malone Can in large part shoulder the blame for about 75% of the games lost while Chad was here
