I'd lay money on the fact that even if they do show up for kick off, they're out of there by end of halftime (i.e. 8 pm) to get ready to head to whatever mixer someone has scheduled to conflict with the end of the game.
So what you're saying is the time change will have absolutely no effect on student's game day habits........

Eddie P wrote:Also, a 5pm start time will not infringe upon any saturday night parties...nobody shows up for those things until 11pm or later. 8-9pm might, just might, interfere with someone's pre, pre party at best.
You would think this is the case, but experiance says otherwise. People will leave around 8:00 to go get ready, eat, collect everyone, buy booze, etc etc so they can be looking as greek as possible when the pre party starts at 10 or 11.

If the game kicks-off at 5pm, it will be over by 8pm, still giving time to for fraternity cugines get to the liquor store before 9pm, when they stop selling that vodka and tequilla that those sorority goumadas love. Its a win-win.

Plus, with an 8pm finish, that puts us Blvd. crew guys at a good spot for some post-game activities on the Blvd.

Well Mr. Copeland just lost me as a fan at the SMU games. I cannot go with the 5 PM kickoff. My wife is diabetic. She has to eat supper at a regular time (not hot dogs). I doubt if I'm the only fan he's losing. But if the tradeoff is to get the non-paying students there for half of the game, I guess he can afford to sacrifice me.

1. Eddie, I can tell you've never experienced the amount of time and agony it takes to choose which halter top and low rise miniskirt to wear to that 11 pm mixer. Plus, hair, makeup, shoes, it's enough to make a girl want to leave at 7 pm.

2. I'm quite confident with our new offense, games are not going to be over in 3 hours. Try 4.

For the fellow with the diabetic wife, you can bring a picnic to the Boulevard and eat it right before you go into the stadium. You could probably get the athletic office to give you a special pass to bring food into the stadium because of your wife's situation. They aren't completely heartless over there. Just make a quick telephone call or email them, and I'm sure they'll accomodate your unique situation. You know what happens when you assume.

Oh No! for the second time in two months I was going to post EXACTLY what DiamondM posted. Games will take between 3 1/2 to 4 hours in this new offense assuming 30+ passes a game.

Coach Burns will definitely be airing it out this fall, which will result in longer games, but even so, a 5pm start still provides plenty of time to take in the game, and be able to make it for Saturday night activities.

Stallion,

Please assure that you were only going to say "exactly" what Diamond M said in item 2 and not "exactly" what Diamond M said in item 1.

If we move the ball up and down the field all night by throwing the ball 30 or 40 times a game, they can play for 6 hours, as far as I'm concerned. I'll always be at SMU games, but even for the most loyal, staunch supporters among us, last year's offense was .... well, let's just say it was frustrating at times. I can't wait to see an offense with both a running game AND a passing threat.

Well, I for one will be able to go to more games w/ the 5pm start. DFW isn't exactly a quick hop from the valley...and with American into DFW it's either leave at 6am & get there at 8 or 12:30 and get there at 2:30. Now 5pm, that's different...plenty of time to get there, and if I need to take care of some business in E. Tx, no problem doing so & getting over to Dallas in time for the game.

I wasn't a fan of getting an afternoon sunburn anyway.

And for what it's worth, Mrs. RGV is a proud LSU season ticket holder, and games in Death Valley are nightcaps as well.

I am diabetic also, but it won't cause me to miss the 5:00PM kick off. I too must watch my diet and eating times. I simply will eat a meal earlier and carry some healthy snacks with me.

Perhaps I could get special permission from the athletic department to carry snacks into the stadium. But last year I was stopped at the gate and not allowed to take in a carry-on bag that happened to have some trail mix in it for my wife. As a result, I took the bag back down to the boulevard and that was the last time I ever saw it. Fortunately I took my binoculars and radio out of it before it was stolen, but I lost two ponchos and other personal items. It was a very negative experience.

My wife and I are very independent. It is not our nature to seek special favors because of her disease.

I understand you desire to be independent and you will be. What getting what you wifes need is being is assertive. We are here to please and the M-Club or Ticket office will give you what you need.

If they do not. Call me directly ( Perspnal E-mail ) and I will smuggle or just beat the crap out of anyone that says no. I am 6'1" and 280. I'll help!!!
