Last one I recall was UNLV in 1993. They won the conference regular season title but were upset in the first game of the conference tournament. Then JR Rider got suspended and the committee passed on them as they knew they couldn't do anything without him.
Can someone smarter than me explain how OOC schedule is considered in the tourney selection but apparently 100% ignored in the in-season rankings? By this logic, we should never have even sniffed the top 25.
So much for "The American" bringing us all of this value. With Louisville leaving, it makes things tough going forward. (at least for next year unless we add some quality teams fast) Take UL out of the equation, and we swept Uconn, split with Memphis and Cincy. Basically unless we sweep everyone next year we will be on the outside looking in.

You know there is a completely different group of people who vote for the rankings than select the tourney right?

i get that, but how could their criteria be so divergent? What's the point of a ranking system? At least the BCS figured into the post-season.
its not our conference schedule. it is our out of conference schedule. Also the bottom of our conference is deemed poor - although i would put it up against the bottom 4 teams in just about any league. Temple would kill TCU for example.

Tulsa is solid and Temple won't be bad forever, so basketball will hold on. Tulsa is also solid in football.
But ECU? They seat 40,000 for football, but who at a network cares? Greenville is the #99 TV market in the country.
At least Tulane is in a fun town that's easy to travel to, and it's TV market is about the same size as Louisville and twice the size of Greenville.

Definitely tough to accept. We had a great opportunity. The way we played the past 4 or 5 games probably sealed our fate. We were in control of our own destiny.
Looking back, our OOC Schedule was a joke. Listening to CBS compare how our OOC Schedule ranked to other schools puts things in perspective with all the OOC lightweights that we played. Had we beat Vigrinia, Arkansas, or Houston maybe things would have been different. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Everything adds up, wish that it didn't. We really have to look in the mirror and recognize that we only have ourselves to blame.
No doubt The American did not get any respect. Louisville a #4 Seed, what a joke. No one on our team truly stepped up in the past 4 to 5 games. We need a leader! Hope that guy is Mudiay!
Hope this motivates our team to show up for every game next season! Pony Up!
This was about not letting 5 acc teams in the ncaa joke tourney. 6 from the a 10. Jokes on us. I knew when I saw dayton get in that we had been scrwed.
