Why does everyone act like we had this great relationship with everything revolving around the DISD. Have not recruited well in that Hot Bed for many many years. I don't think Tubbs had a bunch of DISD kids lined up to come here either, granted we got more looks (which could have been just complementary looks) and maybe one MIGHT have ended up coming here sooner or later. No DISD families came to our games when had "one of their own" here. It seems to me for the most part the News has moved on about the firing of Tubbs, they just seem to be reporting who we are interviewing now. And as you know schools don't just recruit within 1 school district around them. Still not saying the firing of Tubbs was handled right, but I don't think we are in any worse shape.
Besides, I am shocked and excited at the type of coaches we are interviewing. All have better resumes than we have had around here in a long time.
And I think if Fall and Morris stay, than things MIGHT actually turn the corner. Big Men to grow with, a good qualified (hopefully) coach, and an AD who made things happen at his last University.

Magpie #1 aka Hoop,
Spare us...............3 weeks of the same old dribble has gotten so old........You have become Blackistone. All discussions lead to "Tubbs was screwed, we're never going to get any good recruits, and we're never going to get a coach who can win because of the firing of Tubbs."
Administrator, can we please add a complete new thread called "Whiners" and put hoop and jt over there so jt can keep chirping "burgers and Cheer" since he thinks that saying is so clever and so hoop can join in?

I am not going to argue with SMU alum about Duke (seemed to be mispelled quite a few times). Look at the program and what K has done and what else can you say?
We do not know how good of a recruiter Duh is as he has never had to recruit. He was not at Notre Dame long enough and certainly not at FAU.
You might find this "shocking", but when you are Carolina, you have these guys already in your sites well before a lot of other programs. They have real "scouts" just like the pros. While Duh did recruit the guys that Roy Boy used, it was Roy Boy (the one that can not with the big game) that did. Why?? He can actually teach(man that hurts to say). Duh can not. I saw them lose to a DII school at the Dean Dome with the same kids that one a national championship. Are you kidding?
Everyone wants a name to SHOCK the world. I want a guy to stick around for a few years (I know he will leave after success) and actually try. My goal (sad as it may be) is to become the DePaul of Dallas. Continue to recruit in our own backyard and consistantly go to the Tournament.

Tubbs gave us a relationship where there was none before and will be none again if your type of thinking prevails. Nothing is as simple as you want to make it. Not everyone worshiped the ground Tubbs walked on in Dallas, that is stupid, nothing ever works like that.

what was the quote from the DISD coach about why Tubbs couldn't get one of his kids to SMU....oh that's right....it didn't matter what the HS coach said, the kid wanted to play for a winner....i.e. not SMU.

Spare me your sweep it under the rug rhetoric. you had your broom out before any of this occurred ready to sweep it all under the rug. Let me guess, you and Max are buddies aren't you?
As for the new coach, i dont care how much you don't want to hear it, but the new coach needs to be able to get his foot in the door in the power programs in Dallas. That is not a 'whine' about Tubbs. That is simply the way I believe SMU needs to approach its program. Not sure why that bothers you so much or why you are so threatened by the concept.

Matt Doherty: Pro and Con
SMU coaching candidate Matt Doherty is a mini-Bob Knight: a coach who has passionate defenders as well as detractors.
There's no doubt Doherty can coach and recruit. He was a key assistant at Kansas for Roy Williams. He put Notre Dame back on the basketball map and recruited the talent that eventually won a national title at North Carolina. There's also no doubt his career took a major downward turn at North Carolina, which is why he's coaching at Florida Atlantic.
A quick Google search reveals there's no shortage of opinions about Doherty, and especially about why things went bad for him at UNC. I guess, like Knight, it all depends on whose opinion you value. Incoming SMU athletic director Steve Orsini no doubt has contacts at Notre Dame and in Florida to help him form his own opinion.

Is that really an appropriate comment from somebody that openly advocated Tubbs nearly a full season before he was hired and has done nothing but defend him in the face of all criticism and been dismissive of every single name suggested as a replacement?

Good thing there is only about a 63 of us or it could be scary.

This would be a decent option, I think we could do better. SMU should try and find the very best coach we can get.

the 'big fish" that Tubbs couldn't close the deal on in Dallas-his successor will not likely be able to even get his foot in the door. I'm not 12 like some of you-this isn't the first Red & Blue Rodeo I've been too. You will soon find out the damage that has been done in Dallas. For starters look at Bennett who can only bottom fish in his backyard.
