Oh geez-Franchione's best asset is recruiting- He's a proven commodity w/o question in recruiting EVEN at A&M. If they let him stay another year he just might prove it.

How many times does he walk out on his players without a word before that bites him in the butt? And I'm sorry Stallion, but recruiting at A&M and at SMU are entirely different things. A lot of the guys that end up at A&M have grown up dreaming of playing at Kyle Field (still don't get why). SMU does not have so many of those kids. We seem to have to beg them to come play for us.

HE KICKED SMU'S BUTT UPSIDE ONE AND DOWN THE OTHER IN RECRUITING TOO AT TCU.

Is it anger or booze that's making you incoherent?
Or perhaps Stallion has turned the computer over to his 7 year old, who can still makes more sense than most people on the board.

His DFW and Houston pipelines are pretty good b/c he was recruiting to BCS school A & M. Doubt he would get those kids if he was recruiting them to SMU, and can't believe you would think he could. Think all those kids will switch from A & M to SMU if he is our coach ?
I don't care if he recruits Northern SA or not, or if our new coach recruits down here or not. Again, I don't care where our kids come from but I do think we need to look everywhere for players. Tulsa, UH and others who are in our conference get kids we don't even try for and then they beat us.
Just reporting facts. Those coaches down here who are even Aggies do not necessarily like him, and SMU has little if no presence down here as to recruiting. Hope our new coach can actually have good relationships all over.
By the way, all the 4 schools in District 26-5A continue on in the state playoffs but I quess it is not important to look and see if some of those kids (i.e. -- Marcus Wright) could maybe help us.

That was before he left 3 schools without a bit of respect for the players. I just wonder how quickly his act will grow weary if it hasn't already.

but back then, it was The Model's fault not the coach's.

The majority of you are talking bout a subject you know next to nothing about. I do-he is a damn good recruiter- by far better than anyone we have had before.

Very true. Even though he didn't use Javorskie Lane very well, he did recruit the dude from Lufkin. Great pickup.

oh, well that settles it.
"You can go home everyone. Shut the site down. Stallion knows and we don't."
that's the most intelligent way I have ever heard or read of saying, "Nyah! Nyah!"

Ok, FW and FWGirl,
Who do you want to come here who will act like Mr. Rogers, recruit like a fiend to SMU, return us to our former life of being competitive with good programs for 1.2 to 1.5m a year???? Remember, they are coming to SMU who woefully competes in a lower tier conference and whose reputation is one step ahead of a waste dump?????????

I'm not interested in Mr. Rogers. I'd love to see a Bowden in here. I'd love to see Barnett. I'd be happy with Nutt over Fran. I could list a whole lot of coaches who IMO would do a better job.

The thing I wonder about with Fran is that his attitude if he took the job will be "been there, done that" (New Mexico and TCU). Its well documented that he has a high opinion of himself and I bet he feels like he has nothing to prove. Would he just come here to put an additional $1M+ in his pocket each year before he retires (he is 60) and not put his heart and soul into the job?
I could see where at the first sign of obstacles, he would just quit and not fight the good fight (basically what Copeland did).
Would he just be collecting a check until he retires?

But all of the names you listed are upgrades in my opinion to what we had or have had. All of the names you listed are guys who have won in the past at the Div. 1-A level. I am getting excited for the announcement.

Honestly, just about anyone but Franchione. Or did I misread that the heading of this thread was about him.
There are people out there with equal or better football/recruiting qualities than him. And they have been discussed ad nauseum here already.
But I do not believe that you can compromise and condone his questionable character issues as it pertains to commitment to a program by hiring him. Would you accept the same in a university president or AD? Then why would you for the Coach who is the one actually interacting in the lives of these young men and representing this university? That what this game is about: getting the right kids here and using their talents effectively.
