If a kid is old enough to vote, he's old enough to honor an agreement he signed with a school that spent money and time and energy to recruit him. If he's that unhappy, come to SMU, play a year, transfer and sit out a year.

Its not that hard to figure out - the kid got an offer they think is better then the SMU offer - and Dad pulled a power play - probably the AAU guy got greezed by someone at the other school - conditional on seeing it they could get the release. Doh's so-called PG "promise" was the best excuse they could muster - even though nobody at that level would normally admit being scared of any competition - they all think they are the next coming -especially point guards.

Dad et al wouldnt come clean - so Doh stuck to his guns. It wont hurt us a bit since it is an isolated incident anyone can see through...

The facts are that we don't know what they are. We are all speculating on all of this. Doh made a decision and I suspect, he knows all the facts. Its his head in the noose, not ours. He made the call, he'll have to live with it. Recruiting is all about relationships. If you don't have them with HS coaches and AAU coaches, then you won't be able to sign any good players. If you go long enough not recruiting good players, your team loses games and you get fired. At which point a new coach is hired with new relataionships. For example Eschrick was by all accounts a decent coach and recruited relatively well. John Thompson III came in and started getting great recruit. Why? Relationships. So, the school these days doesn't matter in basketball recruiting, its all about the Coach.

Well said, and I have no problem with his decision for these reasons.

I'm betting his release will be granted.

I would bet it will be granted also - once someone tells the Doh the real story.

If by relationships you mean JT3's Dad is on the board of Nike, an ex-head of the grassroots program, then yes, he has relationships.

Wow, that's an abysmal breakdown. Nobody is paying Dubois' AAU coach. The kid barely played his junior AAU season and is a Top 250 recruit, not Top 25. Beyond that, nobody greases palms after a NLI is signed. Its called opening a can of worms. Also, It's not about being scared of competition, its about choosing a school w/a defined need and immediate playing time. That's how he chose his school, coupled w/his relationship w/Irvin. The same way most kids do these days.

It's not Doh's decision to make anymore. Dubois didnt send in his final high school transcripts, so his application for admission was denied. He has to be released now.

Clarke was also released. no longer wanted.

What is the process if they don't send in the final transcript?

The LOI becomes null and void when the recruit receives written notice that he has been denied admission. Dubois was denied on July 1st.

Why go through all the rigamarole with a hearing with the NLI people etc when all he had to do was not send in the damn transcript? Good grief. Could've saved himself a lot of effort.

I was kind of wondering the same thing RGV Pony was wondering. Why did he go through all that stuff? So actually, the LOI is really of no value to the school. All the athlete has to do is "nothing" and he will be denied admission and then he can go his merry way. I have to be missing something here.
