there are 22 committed Tackles in Texas. ALL but SMU's Bryan Collins is 6-4 or over-actually almost all -20 out of 22- are 6-5 and over

there are 16 committed Guards 13 are 6-3 or over. SMU's Chris Atchinson and kids going to Rice and UConn as wll. (actually they left off Jordan Favreau an SMU recruit who is either 6-2 or 6-3.

Very few exceptions for Guards and Tackles to be less than 6-4 and hopefully 6-5. Some of the exceptions will actually play Center in College.

Go check out Top 25 or even Top 50 teams and tell me the percentage of successful schools routinely recruiting guys 6-2 or under except for Centers.

Honestly I'm alright with 6'2 and 6'3 guards if they are players. As far as Tackle goes I want those guys starting at 6'4 and up.

No it is not ideal, but we aren't in a situation where we can expect ideal. I just want a return to respectability.

we have a lot of O lineman coming in especially including the 2 greyshirts. We also have the other 6 from last year. Plus the 2 walk-ons from last year. like 5 or 6 that are rs-freshman. I think we have plenty of o-lineman for awhile. Hopefully next year we concentrate more on WR's and D players.

What about a couple of running backs. Despite rumors to the contrary, the Run and Shoot requires runners. Every running back for JJ has done extremely well, inlcuding Barry Sanders. The closet seems to be empty or am I missing someone?

Stallion as usual you are a tremendous beat off...

Super bowl Champs line....

6"4 RT, 6'3' G , 6'3" C, 6'3 G, 6'5" T

Runner ups...

6'4" T, 6'4" 6'2" C, 6'4" , 6'4"

One guy on both starting lines is 6'5"....

6'2" for a 18 year old kid is just fine to play in college...

Stallion,

you post what you can read on rivals...as an attorney I hope you site everything you pass off as your own...

you have never played and you have no original thought on any matter.

I don't disagree that SMU needs better players, but you are an amazing [deleted] when presenting your case.

May I correct:

"you have never played and you have no original thought on any matter",

Should read:

"you have never played and you have never had a positive or original thought on any matter".

Jake Long is an elite left tackle 6'7" 310+ combining physical attributes with superior ability.

the ideal, long held beliefs regarding physical attributes for OL start at 6'4" for OT, 6'3" for OG and 6'2" for center. There are 6'5" OT that are terrible players and 6'2" that are awesome. You cant teach size which is why it is is prefered, but it is not an absolute requirement for success at DI or NFL levels.

So is Rivals' info supposed to be taken as gospel, even when you point out that Favreau was left off, thereby pointing out its inaccuracy?

Stallion,

you still have not made any point.

Please let me know when you do...when confronted with data other than what you can look up, you make no rational argument.

Thanks

There are exceptions but for the most part, Stallion's right. You've gotta have height to get size if we're wanting to be Top 25. That being said, Jones has offers out to some monsters including the 6'7" kid from Hawaii and unfortunately, the really high rated kids that are tall are not quite sold on SMU. I think we're going to have to wait on blue chip O linemen. In the meantime, we're going to have to pick kids who can play that are going to be shorter than ideal unless we start paying them to come here.

My contention is that at age 18/19 and even all the way through college there is very little difference between a 6'2 6'3 kid and a 6'4 6'5 kid...You can still be a very good offensive line. Baby steps...

If we can get 3 star, 6'2" offensive lineman we will be a far better team than in past years.

I also think that the o-line has played OK this year, far better than I thought they would be.

There is always a prototype O-line, but teams sometime want smaller faster lineman, i.e. Denver broncos, NY Giants, Texans, who fit the scheme better than large lineman.

Just for the sake of clarity...could you be a little more specific? Or is this something you cut and pasted from the Colt's web site...which means you don't know?

Good offensive tackles are a commodity just like corners.
