I have been checking out flights and five nights leave monday 21st come home on the 25th tax flight and hotel one person $1200 anyone can afford that I would think.

$1200 is not too bad. Problem is if you have a wife, no way she's letting you go off to Waikiki for Xmas without her. Memphis, she doesn't care about, but Hawaii, no freaking way. Then you've got the problems of the kids. If you don't have available grandparents, they have to come along too. Time you figure in a rent car, meals and incidentals, you're well over $6K.

Wouldn't be a problem if it was still my first wife (serves me right for marrying a Baylor grad). I'd dump her and go. But I kinda like this one.

Man up take control and just go that's what I am going to do.

My wife's sister works for AA and my wife has already told be that she is going to Flight block me from the stand by tickets LOL if she can't go... So I will just buy then and have a guaranteed seat no stand by. Man up!

Come to Hawaii!!....Hawaii!!! I think coach Jones is keeping his team focused and grounded. The team goal, become bowl eligible, go to a bowl with 6 wins, and since the Sheraton Aloha Bowl is a C USA bowl site, let's go to Hawaii. He wants his players to focus on each practice day to get ready for Marshall, one game at a time, not to get too far ahead and certainly he doesn't want his players to strut and forget the task at hand, beat Marshall. As he stated and Sanders confirmed, he has broken the season into stages that the players are buying into and are accomplishing. He and his players control their destiny, so those in contact with players, keep them grounded, focus on Marshall only and don't distract them with bowl talks, awards, etc. Just Beat Marshall. one game at a time.

But since we are bloggers on the Ponyfans, I say, Hawaii is a better fit for SMU football. Why? The Sheraton Bowl doesn't draw a lot of fans, maybe in the 30K range in a 50K stadium, but the audience isn't highlighted during the telecast, the game is. Hawaii has one of the highest VIEWERSHIP of bowl games that are not BCS championship games, lot of fans and future recruits watching. The exposure is worth more than the difference the Liberty bowl pays out, the exposure for SMU the college to past, present and future students. The exposure will benefit the school in fund raising efforts, think outside of the box, SMU is more than football, it is a highly rated private school that needs alumni and outside revenue to sustain its educational goals. The public relations and publicity the Sheraton bowl brings to SMU far out ways the Liberty bowl participation which is played on a day with several other bowl games. ESPN is the owner of the Sheraton Bowl, lots of ESPN publicity, imagine clips of June on the golf course with high profile SMU alumni, Reinebold on his surf boards, players with ocean as a back drop, etc. priceless. Only 15K attend SMU fb games on a given weekend, even if half of you were able to come to Hawaii, that's only 7500 fans, if all of you went to Memphis, that's only 15K, barely enough to fill the allotment the Liberty bowl demands. You say more will attend, then how come they haven't come out to the campus for homecoming.

Add me to the list of people complaining about Hawaii. And yes, I would definitely go to Memphis. We just cancelled travel plans for New Years so that we would have it open.

Add me too. I have already worked out plans with several people (who have not been to any games all year) who will go to Memphis. Not one of us can pull off a Hawaii trip on Christmas. I am even having trouble convincing the family that we will be watching the football game on tv instead of having Christmas dinner at that time.

Bottom line though, I want whatever is best for the program. If it is Hawaii, it is Hawaii. My opinion though is that big wins are better for the program than anything. Beating Fresno St? Not so much. Beating Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina? Count me in for that.

Where did you get that? Below are the numbers for the last 2 years. The game with Notre Dame was in the middle of the pack for ratings, the game without ND was near the bottom - a 1.47 rating. That was below the Armed Forces, Las Vegas, Sun, Meineke, Papajohns.com, and even the New Orleans bowls. The Liberty Bowl in 2007-08 was the 4th highest non-BCS game. In other words, don't expect Notre Dame ratings if the game is SMU - Idaho.
