Why am I supposed to hate Craig James?

the fact is nobody would have known a thing about this if Mike Leach had dealt constructively with Texas Tech in resolving a legitimate complaint. By all apparent information this was being handled in a private manner. I can't remember the exact date but the issue arose on about December 20-neither James nor anyone else went running to the media unril Leach refused to cooperate with Texas Tech and he was suspended over a relatively trivial matter. Tech broke the news and at that point there were about 150 people who knew exactly who was involved in the complaint since this happened at a team practice

It also never would have happened had he not overruled his coaches and brought on a kid who is worthless as a football player and by many accounts a spoiled, lazy brat [with an amazingly dumb father].

those same coaches decided to make that lazy, slacker a significant part of their team despite the fact he was a lightly recruited, greyshirt that no one expected to see the field. Yet those same coaches put him on the field starting from the start of his redshirt freshman year where he contributed 32 catches for about 320 yards. Nothing more transparent than post-suspension criticism of the kid. The fact is that Adam James OVERACHIEVED-I followed his recruitment very closely and never thought he would play a down. If he truly was a lazy, slacker, entitled, spoiled brat why wasn't he cut, riding the bench or run off by the same coaches now criticizing him post-suspension. Why did they play him even in their biggest games on their schedule?

Everyone that knows Craig James so well (and from this board apparently I am the only one not intimately familiar with him, his children and his personality) needs to give him a call and ask him how he felt when the previous coach ask him to stay away from SMU because of the negativity from the past that it might stir up, and see how he felt about that. How would you feel today if you were told that you should not associate with our school? I commend Jones for bringing our legends back into the fold in order that people might recall what they did to bring us into the limelight.

I am proud to have Craig James as an alumnus and former All American athlete from SMU and welcome any time that he may have the opportunity to speak on behalf of my school even if it is to respond to underhanded comments thrown at him on national TV in reference to SMU's past. I think he has handled being ridiculed in public for many years very well. I can only imagine how I might react should I be told to stay away from what was a major part of my life just because of what some other people in high places did to disassemble our football program.

Is he arrogant and cocky? I do not know because I do not know him personally and I would imagine that most who say he is do not know either. But, show me a star athlete that does not carry somewhat of a "confidence" about him. Most do have a better than others attitude because that is what made them better than others on the field.

Is his son lazy and unambitious? I do not know. Could be. On occasion I wish all of my children were better people than they are, and then I realize that any fallicies they may have are due to their upbringing which falls soley on me. And if I had been gone travelling either playing a sport or announcing a sport while my children were growing up, they might not have all the traits of outstanding young people that I would like. But again, I do not know because I do not know the child or his parents. It might be wise for all of us to step back and think before we speak too harshly of those we do not know. I for one have made this a continuing resolution every year for several years now. I am still working on perfecting this.
