You can bet your last dime (might have to) that both of those will go up substantially.
This might well convince me not to re-up for season tickets, and I have a couple of friends who have said the same thing. Hope SMU is smart enough to open more ticket windows and tables (which they should be doing, anyway), because there are going to be a lot of former season ticket holders who will count on being able to walk up and buy single-game tickets. I know I will.
Two winning seasons in 25 years, and this is the reward, and during an awful economy.
Can't wait to hear Orsini tell us again how much he appreciates the fans who stuck with SMU during the lean years.

The University is making a bet that winning and bowl games will be the new tradition.
You are making the same bet.
It's hard to wake up one day and have your costs increase, but its nice to finally wake up from the nightmare of losing. Mustangs are now winners. We have to be competitive financially vs other schools too. Let's keep the pony express moving in the right direction- Top 25.
For those who will decide to move seats, all the seats in Ford are good - especially when we are winning. An extra hour on the boulevard and you'll think you're in your old seats.

If cost is a consideration, why not have a section or two on the opponents side for season ticket holders. Lower the cost of holding a ticket and still allowing folks to have decent seats. Doesn't appear that the opposite side is filled the games that I have attended.

You people have 3 choices--renew and pay more, move to a different spot and pay less or cancel.
This is not just isolated to SMU and this is supply and demand. Hey, if you dont want to come back then don't let the door hit you on the way out. That's why there's a marketing department and ticket office whose functions are to drive sales. Shockingly, we can all be replaced. And they're capitalizing on the momentum that has been built regardless of the economy.
It would have been foolish if they did not. And it's really stupid by some to suggest that we need several great years before they should have done this. Do you guys live on Mars?
For years we prayed for a better football program. Well, be careful what you wish for....
We have until May 1. Cut the whining crap!!

SMU has had 24 losing records since 1984. Then we have 1 winning season and get hit with this??
I could understand it if we had 4 or 5 strong bowl seasons and they wanted to implement this logic.
But what if the 2010 team only wins 4 games? Then what are they going to do? Go back to a plan that makes sense?
I just thing this was way to early to force the season ticket holders to pay for PSLs. If we had graduated from UT or Alabama or the U of Florida where there is serious tradition for winning football, thats one thing. SMU football is not a powerhouse... We are a hopeful.
This is a policy for a powerhouse... period.
This whole thing makes me sad and it makes me feel distanced from MY team. In a way I feel betrayed. Anyway...
Agreed

I see the Athletic Dept. is taking a page out of the politico world by dumping bad news on the masses late in the day on a Friday...genius.
No one likes a price increase, but I'm not against it. I hope this arose out of an increased demand or inquiries for season tickets, and not just to profit from the loyal few. If Orsini thinks we can add 500+ season ticket holders next year b/c of the bowl win, then that will be a huge boost to our bottom line.
So, I hope this portends a record number of new season ticket holders.

I had a problem when I thought they were trying to increase ticket sales by requiring tickets be purchased in blocks of 4 minimum. Now that I understand otherwise, I am ok with what they are doing. I have no probelm with paying more for better on a sliding scale of their choice. Just police the seats(which they do not do now), and let those that already have seats have the first option to renew (which is the case) and I am on board. I said years ago when I bought my seats that I hoped one day the price I was paying to get them would be justified due to larger crowds. I think over the course of the next few years that will happen.

Is attendance going to go up? Yes. Are there a lot of people excited about SMU Football? Yes. Will there still be empty seats all over the stadium? Yes. Raise the price fine. But to raise them from $50 per ticket for 204 to $250 per ticket is a little high. They need to be reasonable. But a 300%+ increase is way too much. There aren’t enough free bowls of soup in Dallas to fill those seats.

I don't know what happened in Dallas, but at the Houston event Orsini said that changes would be announced the next day. Obviously he didn't reveal the entire plan in detail, but most folks figured an increase of some sort was in the works.

I called yesterday to upgrade my seats, there are over 40 people on the stadium club wait list at 1100/tic...I have a feeling that the people who are really upset will be more than cancelled out with people that are really excited and willing to pay 250/tic for season tics, a relatively small number in D1- football....
If you are really upset about it, pair up with someone else...go blocks of 2 and spilt it...

If there was something like this already in place, we probably would have had a better chance at keeping Vic Villoria. Chew on that....
It takes more dinero if you want to be the best. How the hell do you think TCU got to where it is, magic? They invested the money and earned the trust of their fanbase that they were committed to doing this. SMU is asking the same of us.
We are entitled to nothing. If you want to be a BCS buster put your money where your mouths are or stand aside.

Aren't you supposed to wait for the demand before the price goes up?

How do you and I know there isn't a greater demand.

With out being forward I would recommend to the Mustang Club that they monitor this section next year and check tickets exactly the way they do at basketball games in the blue seats.
I never complain, I just show and cheer. But this would be the only thing I would ask for in return.

Never bothered me before when others moved into my area but it might begin to disturb me a little now. Be ready to pack your bags Jtstang. Of course he is already planning on bringing 2 friends since I will have to buy 4 tickets now.
I'll be in my usual section. At the usual price.
