This thread continues to deliver. Dwon Clifton and Lawrence Johns for the Drew plays it straight crowd.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

It would be nice to know that the SMU staff was at least trying to go after Texas kids as much as possible and show up at every possible event. Do they feel it's a lost cause?

- at some point it has to turn where we can establish better ground again in the TOLA region.

You're really going to believe what a Baylor fan says about SMU recruiting efforts?

This staff recruits extremely hard, all over the place. They recruit DFW very hard, without much success, but still put in countless hours. We're listed w/so many of the Texas top 25 or 30 in '11, it's impressive. No idea if the rubber will meet the road though.

Do people really care about recruiting DFW vs say a kid in San Antonio?

Are you really going to keep that signature of the meaningless game

Until I find something better. Haven't found anything better yet. SMU - where athletic achievements are few and far between.

IMO the bowl win for SMU football this year is a bigger accomplishment than the basketball win over Memphis.

For a non-elite basketball program to sign a 4 star or 5 star player you usually have to recruit them hard for a few years. Who are the 4 and 5 star high school recruits in Texas that SMU has pounded on hard for a few years? Simply faxing over an offer letter to them is not the same thing as recruiting him hard for a long time.

If you disagree with my assessments of SMU's recruiting efforts then you do not have to take my word on it, of course. Go see for yourself. Go out to some of the AAU events in Dallas and Houston. You will see SMU coaches there some of the time. You will see Baylor coaches there practically every single time. You will also see Baylor working on kids at a much earlier stage than SMU tries to get in on them.

Take a look at your roster, there are a couple on there.
