appreciate the nuggets. Some thoughts: obviously, the plan is always to have a good season. What if we don't? With eligibility issues, shawnbrey and ES gone, if we go 5-7 this year are we in trouble? I don't like the implication. I don't think its entirely ridiculous that we put out feelers to the Big Televen hoping they would like our academics and entry to Texas recruiting, but through Northwestern? They don't have any influence.
No doubt the situation is fluid. which is really to say, we are nowhere really, but having conversations like everyone else. Blowing in the wind is not a good place to be. We just gotta hope Memphis and UCF dont bolt in the next two weeks and more importantly that Houston doesn't bolt to the MWC without us. Like someone else said, we are damaged goods if anyone leaves CUSA ahead of us.

I understand that argument, but last summer? Our only wins in 2 years had been against an FCS team and a highschool in Denton. That would be the equivalent of the SEC adding San Diego State.

Again, don't panic.

... and yes huskerpony last summer's news was a little, um, odd to say the least.

I hear you. The only difference is that the SEC already has all of the speed and talent it needs in its backyard. The Big10 does not...if it wants to win more national championships.

From the academic side, northwestern and U of C control all the grant money shared among Big 10 universities, this is a very powerful position to be in...

It is. The story was that if Notre Dame keeps stalling that Northwestern wants a private school partner in the conference.
I think this ship has sailed, however it still does hold water in the sense that the Big Ten's part of the country is dying a slow death and it needs a partner in a talent rich state. So there's hope.
(Oh and I don't mean Chi-town is dying a slow death, just the industrial belt that makes/made up the better part of that conference.)

as much as i understand that Northwestern is powerful academically, its desire for another private school in the Big10 is not going to carry anything. They have one vote. Besides, the big 10 appears to be much more interested in going east for a state school to attract television sets than the deep south for a private school for recruiting inroads. If we had a conversation with the Big10, it must have been a brief one and an ultra high level pitch.

Since the WAC is dying to we try and poach their best teams and merge with the west CUSA schools?

You're right, Hoop Fan.
I'm sorry I brought it up. Because again, the train left the station on this one. It's not even worth our brain cells/brain energy to contemplate. I only did bring it up to point out that this is not an issue where Orisini/Jones/Turner are just sitting around waiting for a call. They have been proactive for a while.

understood, I am not trying to attack the notion. But lots of people make crazy pitches to Warren Buffett everyday, and he listens for a minute, but it doesn't mean the ideas have legs. I like our admin thinking big, I really do. But taking flyers like that make me feel more panicky, not less.

No! We already tried that concept of playing west coast schools and I for one was not too thrilled with it. Very long distances for our teams to travel and late game times. Game reports and summaries in the newspaper came on Monday instead of Sunday. Again...No!

Don't panic. As I heard that wasn't a flyer... just a thing being worked between us and Northwestern to see if there was even a flyer to have. You have to be heartened by the notion that we are looking into all options is all I'm saying.
