At the end of the season we can have them put down, add some Tomatoes, Garlic, Chili pepper, for a huge chili bash and we can have "Liberty" and "Justice" for all.

maybe it's a personal perspective, but I really take issue with those that take potshots at the Mustangs themselves. Whether you're a Peruna-only guy or not, the geldings really have nothing to do with RGT/SO/tradition/allegiance to SMU/whatever. Having them put down, or sent to a butcher in France or what have you, IMO, are unnecessary statements, especially given where these animals came from.

Don't think he meant it that way, but it does not bother me. I doubt that either Peruna or the geldings can read. I just do not like the horses. To me it looks foolish with them standing there with a couple of cowboys just sitting on them. I could probably grow to like them if they would corral them on the grassy knoll and let them stroll freely. They give me the look of working ranch horses and that is not what Mustangs are.

beyond what RGV said...who cares?
Peruna is still the man.
the full size horses are like pictures on the wall...
for all practical purposes...meaningless
But if June & the team like them...then so do I!

PERUNA is our mascot and has been forever! I don't care WHO the coach is---he shouldn't think he can come in and change the school's mascot! Yes, I expect him to produce a good team and get the best recruits he can because that is his JOB!!! He isn't there because he felt sorry for us--I believe he makes some pretty good money. I feel he earns that money b/c he had a tough job to do and he has done it very well........but he needs to keep his focus on football and not Peruna! It's just stupid to even have those big horses around b/c they do NOT represent Southern Methodist University in any way. Seriously, do you think we might see a couple of milk cows there beside bevo b/c someone decided they like them better? The big horses might be mustangs but they AREN'T SMU's mascot---never have been and never will be (in my eyes or heart). And.....as far as Seminoles---I thought they were in Tallahassee.

Always is a strong word.
Originally the athletic teams at SMU were the " Fighting Parsons"

So Perunia replaced the original.

God is Love.

Unofficially. All teams had unofficial nicknames before they chose official nicknames. SMU's "Mustangs" name was suggested by a secretary (Dorothy Amman) who said that the players looked like a "bunch of wild Mustangs." In 1917 when the STUDENT BODY decided to choose an official nickname, the choices included Mustangs and Buffaloes, among other names. Mustangs was the chosen name by the STUDENT BODY.

It's a shame that the student body no longer would have such a say.

Has anyone bothered to name the "cowboys" that sit on our "wild mustangs" throughout the game?

At the very least, can we please get rid of the cowboys? While the new names are unfortunate, I still think the riders are the most embarrassing part of this whole debacle.
