Word has it that someone at the SEC has figured out that four of the top 20 spenders in college football — AT&T, Southwest Airlines, Dr Pepper and Tostitos/Frito-Lay — are based in the Dallas area and reportedly are interested in supporting SMU and/or the local economy.

hmmm, funny how only one of those supports our program. SW iv'e only seen on Stampede and does Dr Pepper do anything anymore - I don't think we have tapped into the corporate opportunities in Dallas at all.

Was just posting this as well. AA appears to be our airline sponsor, not Southwest.

Speaking of...
When Patterson goes on recruiting trips, do you think SWA charges him for one seat or two?

Doesn't he just take that van down by the river when he travels?

Isn't it a little early to be predicting how we'll do in the SEC? The way I read it, the story just said there has been some dialog. That's a long way from "we're getting in."
It would be great, at least financially, but there are a lot of bridges before we get anywhere near receiving an offer. Besides, I wonder if we have had conversations with a lot of conferences and this is the only one reported so far.

I can see us competing in the SEC in three to four years. We win all four of our non-conference games, including a gimme @tcu. That only leaves two conference games for us to win and we are bowl bound. With the money, recruiting, and national exposure the sky is the limit.

An Arkansas fan makes the case for SMU in the SEC:

The Razorback fans I know love coming to Dallas to play. There are lots of SEC alumni groups in Dallas.

Maybe a nice gin and tonic would help with the landing.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
