you know, JT, you have a good point. let's just keep playing our game. even if some of CUSA is gone and we have to add LaTech, and UTSA, fine. win. win out. undefeated. we'd get attention. we're still SMU, we're still in Dallas, we still bring a ton to the table. just go about our business, don't be whiners (like ECU applying to BE every 6 months - looks pathetic), be winners.
our seat at the big boy table will eventually open up.

Being a big fish in a little pond is better than being a small fish in a big pond. JT, I am starting to embrace the theory.

I'm cool with it too (so long as the ultimate goal is getting into a stable BCS conference in 5-10 years).

Not NTSU though. We should just pound them periodically for kicks on a non-conference basis.

SMU will never be in the same conference with North Texas.

intentionally left out. there are much better programs to pick from that would expand CUSA's TV market. like Arkansas St., FIU or Western Kentucky.

Gotta keep looking forward, but you also have to keep track of your feet. Our feet are in CUSA right now, but hopefully BE in the near future.

let's let the guys behind the scenes do their thing, and let's focus on winning CUSA this year.

To all those [deleted] their pants over this realignment business, relax, it's going to take care of itself. If we're in, great. If we're out, just look forward to several years of Mustang domination in C-USA. We are talking potential multiple championships. This is a no-lose situation for SMU.
Umm...okay...well, I guess if we do get taken into a stronger conference it may come at the price of some losing.

If CUSA gets depleted by the Big East and reloaded with more small obscure teams, would we be better off going independent? Other option would be MWC, but look at the academic caliber of schools being added and how long TCU had to win in that conference to get noticed.
Fans want recognizable teams at our stadium, a reloaded CUSA is not that. TCU never had much luck getting butts in seats for MWC. I have laughed at independence before, but it may be a way to play teams that matter for a few years before conferences reshuffle again. If we continue to win, other conferences will see us as a team that can be easily be added to increase their exposure to the Dallas market. To the Big12 we become a threat by giving any team a chance to come straight into their prime recruiting ground a play a game. Just a thought.

Embrace C-USA. We will win championships and go to bowls.
What championship do we win as an independant? And what TV money do we get as an independant? And what do we do with other sports?
No, after due consideration I think the dominant player in C-USA is more attractive.

Independent is the Hail Mary play. This round of realignment is not the time to throw the Hail Mary.
If we don't get into the BE then we just stay the course and win games. Make ourselves the top non-BCS school to go get in the next round.

heck, being the top non-AQ now might be an easier road to a BCS game. the rules are in place. doubt they'd take them away just b/c boise goes AQ. would be some serious grounds for suit. just play powder lower tier BCS teams in non-conf play.

That is so cute. FIU, I can see. As for the rest, just change the name of the thread to:
"ALMOST OFFICIAL: EMBRACE UNT"
