Challenge to Those Wanting More Marketing

You get what you pay for... we all know that.
Usually true, but all too often it is not true. What I am trying to establish from those on the Board who have the expertise what the cost is. For example what is a top flight Director of Marketing paid - $100,000 or $1,000,000? How many people does an effective marketing department need to employ and at what salaries? Once you establish that then the question is what will you have them do and what budget will they have? I am trying to get an idea of what the real world bottom line is on effectively marketing our program. A couple of the guys have put down some concrete ideas and how much they might cost which I believe is helpful. Somebody suggested advertising during the World Series and I think that is a great idea, but what would a 30 second ad cost - $10,000 or $50,000 and how many do you need to run to be effective and how much does the production costs? These questions have to be answered or it is just a pie in the sky idea.
Thanks guys for your ideas and please keep them coming with the ballpark costs associated with them.
We hired Richard sweet from SWA a while back and he lasted about 3-4 months and went back. Not sure what his role is/was there - i know SW doesn't pay too well but my guess for a good senior marketing person is $90-100k. Need Big East money first. I don't think anyone understands or it doesn't sink in - we are running at a deficit.
