Just checked on travel packages to Hawaii from the 23rd to the 27th of December and you can get flight and hotel for $1300 each.

SMU_Alumni11,
If I understand your statement correctly, if you ask a 20 year old kid if he would rather stay in Dallas and play a bowl game in your hometown, where the chances are the weather could be cold and gray as opposed to going to Hawaii, spending a week at the beach looking at girls in bikinis and playing football. I am going to go out on a limb and say they pick Hawaii.

Well since Im around that age yes, unless you live off your parents, any regular college student would rather go to a bowl game they can afford to go to. If indeed you are rich little snob than yeah i guess you rather go to hawaii. However a previous post said it correctly rich alums have an excuse to go to hawaii and players get a free trip to hawaii (to enjoy the island not the game). Weather is irrelevant to me, I have been through all the nice and crappy weather games. Now if our players dont care that much about having a chance at the NFL and just want to enjoy the perks than they have that choice. But continually going to irrelavant bowl games, where nation could care less, will keep the program down.

Nice with the name calling, No need for it. If the players want to go to Hawaii then go to Hawaii. SMU went to the Holiday Bowl my freshman year and Aloha Bowl my senior year, I could not afford to go to either one but I seemed to have survive. Get over it. Support you team by watching on tv.
Making it to the NFL has nothing to do with what bowl your team plays in just ask the NFL players who went to school in the MAC, WAC, CUSA etc.... TCU seems to be doing ok after going to the, 1998 Sun Bowl├é┬á• 1999 Mobile Alabama Bowl├é┬á• 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl├é┬á• 2001 Galleryfurniture.com Bowl├é┬á• 2002 Liberty Bowl├é┬á• 2003 Fort Worth Bowl├é┬á• 2005 Houston Bowl├é┬á• 2006 Poinsettia Bowl├é┬á• 2007 Texas Bowl├é┬á• 2008 Poinsettia Bowl├é┬á• 2010 Fiesta Bowl├é┬á• 2011 Rose Bowl.

Where did I name call, as sad as that is, if snob is name calling.... then I dont even know what to say to that. Im getting beat down from people saying Im poor and crap, lets try not to be hypocritical here. Unfortunately I cant ask the NFL players, but thank you for showing TCU, all those bowl games fans can go to and they seem exciting. As you can tell when they were in CUSA they never went to the hawaii bowl and look where they are now.

If snob is name calling or whatever, then let me know what words I cant use cause i rather not start a lame forum fight with alumni.

Its a prime time bowl on Christmas Eve when everyone is watching it.

Whats not to like.

No one even watches the Liberty Bowl or the other Conference USA bowls.

It's a losing battle on this one. The "if you can't afford to drop $2k a person to go to Hawaii you are a bad husband/father" attitude is why SMU is generally hated by everyone in Dallas and we can't draw flies.

The ticket city bowl isn't comparable to the AFB last year. Yah the players weren't motivated to play at their home stadium against ARMY.

I think they would get a little bit more excited playing a nationally recognized powerhouse in a legendary stadium right here. I think some fans would come out of the woodwork and so would casual fans if we were playing a Big 10 team in the Cotton Bowl.

Dont try, you will just get a punch in the face, the forum says: Hawaii better than any possible bowl game. I mean I would agree the cotton bowl against anybody would be way more fun, but you just arent going to convince anyone.

Ok before more continious name calling: not a husband or father, a young grad student, that doesnt have enough to go out and spend money like that, but thanks for letting me know

Does fans coming out of the woodwork mean 5000 or 7000 fans?

Come on...its gonna look like the SMU WAC game attendance.

Isnt that game at noon on New Years Day?

[quote="Blvd_Stang"]"I hate to say it, I don’t know who controls who goes [to which bowls], but I do know that if Hawaii is bowl eligible and we’re bowl eligible, it’s a sell-out and it really helps the state of Hawaii," Jones said. "That’s why I’d like to go."

Seems like he's thinking of Hawaii instead of SMU.[..... /quote]

BINGO!
Helping Hawaii's economy has what to do with SMU?

He tells the team, "maybe we should get the leis out," then says he doesn't know who decides these things. Makes it tougher for Orsini, et al, to say no. Very odd behavior. As in, I've already told the kids they could go.You're really going say no?
