Well, according to June year five for him -- unlike Meyer -- is going to be a total flop.

JJ is always full of it. Coachspeak. Some like to puff their teams up, others like to keep expectations - and egos - at bay.

The defense will be VERY good next year, I think. OL will have some major losses, no doubt, but they haven't really met expectations this year- and as people pointed out on here, the guys JJ and Klemm have recruited were much more highly regarded coming out of HS than the guys graduating. So hopefully there won't be as much fall off there as we have feared. Plenty of talent coming back at WR, and of course Line back (and maybe with a legit backup in Wimbley?) will give whoever is at QB plenty of weapons. Who knows about QB? Does KP come back in and step up for his Sr. season? Is it Kaiser? Preston? Who the hell knows?

I am guessing the first two years of recruiting were brutal. You go meet a recruit, tell them where you are coaching and the kid ask, Where? I think we are just now starting to see what June and his staff are capable of when it comes to recruiting. I am not a fan of the R&S, but I support June Jones and the miracle he seems to be creating on the hilltop. I am going to cut him some slack on the rebuilding time frame.

Exactly. Well said.

Actually, he hasn't said that. He has said that we're losing a damn good senior class and that there might be a step back ... but putting the words "total flop" in his mouth might give your post some otherwise missing sizzle.

It also should be noted that he has said he has high expectations for the young talent and the players he expects to sign, but and that next year could be very good. Acknowledging the departure of some talented players is a far cry from preaching doom and gloom, Big10GomerMM.

P.T. Barnum has marked you down.

Hey, we've gone from being the worst team in the country 0-12 remember that, 1-11, etc to recruiting 4**** players and actually winning more games than we lose. We beat TCU this year who last year was #3 in the Country. We had to make do with a QB.

To get into a bowl, you just have to get out of the 40th percentile of teams. Getting us over that point and maintaining it is great but let's not make getting to a bowl a benchmark of success. We should be getting into bowls every year playing in CUSA.

Stars doesnt mean crap. I agree the fact we look better dont get me wrong, but these guys sure miss talent margins by alot.

Sanders - 2 star WR -> NFL Steelers, Starter
Line- 2 stars, Legit RB, should be NFL
Robinson- 2 stars, Made some amazing catches
etc
etc

Nevertheless, great improvement in the recruiting market.

There's exceptions to the rule, but it's not a coincidence that our on field performance has improved since we starting recruiting more 3-star players.

Compare his record at Hawaii in years two through four to his record here. He's ahead of schedule here.

Interesting that you leave out that meaningless eight game differntial in year one?

Moved from #49 to #46. Our recruiting class is going to (already has) surpassed our current team rank. This team is going upwards. Again just an indicator, stars arent everything as I mentioned before.

No one wants JJ out...Just people questioning whether he wants to be here and if he is right guy going forward. I think here is here for the $$ and thats fine, but build a program then...Embrace dallas and SMU a bit...

These rivals ranking are total BS...b/c thankfully with the help of JJ and some powerful alumni we got admissions standards changed...

The Next coach will be able to recruit from a pool the previous coaches could not...This too has been discussed countless times...We should all get this by now...

Unless we are new to ponyfans :D

Agree with comments on JJ, I hate whenever he wants to help out Hawaii by using our team to do so. I mean if he wants to help them out, get a flight and go raise cash for them but no reason to use resources etc to help another school. Only excuse I can give him is that we have a small fan base, so I can understand the difficult transition, but not embracing SMU will only push it down more. Also I think hes rebuilder not an improver, in other words, once he retires we need a coach that takes average to greatness.

A note for those hoping for JJ's departure...

I see a lot more ranked teams and big-time opponents on his Hawaii schedules compared to what SMU has faced 2008-2011. That should be considered.

For all the newbees that haven't run the numbers you can't compare the Stars from 2005 to about 2008 to the June Jones years because the number of Texas 3 Stars and above have been purposely inflated by as much as 110%+ from the prior periods. Now rankings and offers will still show improvement since SMU lowered their admission standards-but you're wasting your time just comparing stars in Rivals system.
