I didn't realize the dorms don't open until the 10th, that really makes it difficult but you're right, everyone has a friend's apartment or couch they could use.
I'd really like to build a corps of 30-50 RBA/Student travelers for the 2012 season and do things like this regularly for away games. We're going to have to find some way to get students/alumni to travel if we're going to survive in the Big East...

1980 Holiday Bowl STUDENT BOWL trip...6 students signed up, they canceled trip and let us go with the Mustang Club group..seems not much has changed with student participation in the last 30+ years.....

And I'm willing to bet that's not true, but until either of us has hard numbers we're just pulling things out of our [deleted].
I have no doubt his statement is true because most of the donation money is coming from the elderly and when you look back at the Rotunda from 1950s EVERYONE was in a greek organization. A totally different situation from today.
Your best bet for a student attending every game and actually staying past the first quarter is someone from a middle class background, on scholarship/student loans or a parent works for SMU, and doesn't drive a BMW and won't have a great high pay job lined up by daddy upon graduation.
You can see why so few students attend games. There aren't many around in that demographic and most in said demographic are already at the game in the band, the poorest group at SMU per capita.

I got an email today from someone who was offering this:
Dear Students,
Brad Sutton, Associate A.D. in Athletics, gave me your email upon my request to contact students who took road trips to away games this season. We are hoping to find a group of students who are planning to travel from Dallas to Birmingham - and we want to give them a bunch of stuff to help them get there and back! Here’s what we’re offering:
├é┬╖ Rooms for Friday and Saturday night in Birmingham at the team’s official hotel
· Gas money for the trip there and back
· Food money for the trip there and back
├é┬╖ We want to do a full wrap of the car you’re taking - covering it SMU stuff
· SMU paraphernalia that you can/should leave behind on your drive
├é┬╖ GREAT tickets to the bowl, face/body paint, spirited stuff so you’ll get on TV… J
· Send of breakfast or lunch from Dallas
And all was ask is that you do the following:
· Tweet/Facebook/Blog all about the road trip
├é┬╖ Post pics, comments, etc about your experiences - we’re hoping to see images of a stuffed Peruna doll left on a gas pump in Texarkana…
├é┬╖ Cheer your heart out at the game…get on TV

Fantastic! Who will place Peruna in the most debauched place?

The only problem is the logistics of this. First of a ll I don't even have a car on campus. Assuming I find a friend with a car on campus that wants to do this, they want to start the roadtrip from Dallas Friday morning and return to Dallas on Sunday. That means that I need to find lodging in Dallas Sunday and Monday night before the dorms open up.
Its such a great opportunity and I would love to go, but I just don't know if I can make it work.

Free trip to the bowl game and you can't pay for a motel in Dallas for 2 nights if you can't find someone to crash with?
