Yep. I remember that. It was very convenient.

Someone needs to package all of these great ideas into a business case, with estimated cost, projected ROI, etc... And get it in front of SO... Give it a snazzy name and start a fund raising effort to get it off the ground. Many of you sound like you have the connections with the AD, while I do not, I'd be happy to help anyway I can.

This is an awesome idea

A friend of mine in Lubbock joined the Texas Tech "All But One Club" several years ago. He is a preacher and, obviously, had Sunday responsibilities. The "All But One Club" is for people who are graduates of other universities but are unable to attend their alma mater's games. (He is a Baylor grad and he was unable to attend any games in Waco) Members become Tech fans for all games except the game their alma mater plays Tech - if they do at all. They had lunch meetings - kinda like the June Jones luncheons on Mondays. My buddy went to all the Tech home games to support the Red Raiders except when Baylor played in Lubbock. He made a lot of friends (and so did Tech) from a variety of other schools throughout the U.S. SMU could organize something similar with the idea "we know you didn't go to SMU but we want you as a fan - unless we're playing your school." Introduce some of these Michigan, UCLA, Wisconsin, Florida, etc. fans at the games (football and basketball) and express appreciation for them becoming at least a part-time Mustang.
My buddy has moved into this area and I have no idea if Tech even has this program anymore.

Great idea..you'd think SMU would jump at creating something like that.

not trying to be negative, but i have a feeling that something like that works better in a college-centric town like Lubbock, Waco, A&M, Norman, etc. where there's no other sports. so when you're talking to people, naturally EVERYTHING centers around the university b/c that's all there is, and most of them went to school there. I see this w/ my inlaws in Omaha. EVERYONE is a husker fan, even if they didn't go to school there. and come basketball season, EVERYONE is a Creighton fan (they sell out the Quest Center 18,000+). it's just what you do. here i think it's a good idea, but there are so many alternatives. plus all the other schools have booster clubs here. heck, i bet there's a baylor booster lunch/dinner and may even get assistant coaches to come to it. i am sure there's a UT/Tech/OU/Ag.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

A couple of years ago there was a poster on here who was a big longhorn fan--I forget his name. But I remember he posted on the Longhorn fan page about the SMU football program and encouraged Dallas-area longhorn fans to attend the SMU game. I guess UT wasn't playing that Saturday. I remember seeing several folks in burnt-orange shirts at the game that Saturday. A friend of mine, who attended SMU and UT, commented to me about the post on the longhorn fan site.

I think the All But One idea is creative and worth doing. After all, how much does it really cost and it could get a few seats in the stands.

There was just recently a poster from I believe University of Dallas that ask us to come to their baseball games and said they would be interested in adopting our football team. I believe Calallen discussed it with him on ponyfans. We need to reach out to groups like this that do not have a team to support.

Well since Lamar odom is now a maverick maybe someone should get him to join the MC. Then, when he & Khloe go to a football game and they have their camera crew filming them, we will get additional t.v. exposure.

On a more serious note, I think the idea of all but one sounds like one worth trying....couldn't hurt. Reaching out to local colleges w/out football teams is good, too. Those students might end up being a great fan base for us especially since they might actually live in the area after they graduate.

Come to think of it I believe smupony94 said that Tim McMurray was looking into joint marketing with some local non football schools.
