Our roster is loaded with seniors and a lot of the young guts haven't shown much. Junes recruiting is awful and we will be too next season; 2-10 or 3-9 awful.
It's time for him to move on. Do us a favor and retire so we can spend the buyout money.

I stopped reading this by page 3. Everyone needs to relax. It's the first game and if you dissect the game there were quite a few positives. Yes the score sucked and overall we got handled. We have a quarterback that has ran this offense for three weeks, did you really expect we were going going to walk into Waco and win? There's 11 more games we will get better and better.

The issue for me isn't this game, it's how poorly we are prepared for the future. I thought leaving the team in a position to win once he was gone was Junes goal. We need to move on on our terms, not his.

I thought we would do better and have a closer game but we need to thrash SFA. We should not get handled that bad by a mid level bcs team IMO. I hope we do get better because I though we got better in the offseason.

It was pretty clear JJ is keeping the offense simple for Gilbert and he should. I expect against SFA he will open it up more. Gilbert got the ball out quick and made a lot of very good throws. He is clearly the best QB we have had here under JJ and I I'll bet JJ is quietly pretty damn excited today at what the kid can do.

SMU will get another chance at BCS opponents on ATM and TCU. I know the June to the death supporters have their responses ready and coordinated in case of a blowouts but I just hope we are more talented than we showed against Baylor. After 3 bowl games in a row SMU should have the talent to do better than that against Baylor. Can't wait to see how they do after a win against SFA.

I have always been a June Jones supporter and I am depressed by what I saw last night. I think today, labor day, SMU needs to do some basic things.
1) Someone must speak to June about what he wants to do next year. This is the last year of his contract. Does he want to stay, does he want to move on?
2) If he wants to stay and SMU wants him to stay, then they should get a contract extension in place relatively soon. We lost out on Gabe Marks last year because he said he didn't think JJ would be here for his entire time at SMU. This will give SMU recruiting stability.
3) If there is a parting of the ways coming or JJ wants to "test the market" then SMU should put together a search committee together ASAP. JJ is currently the highest paid non-BCS coach in the country. If the new AD can keep the circle of champions together, then we have a shot at locking in or creating a very exciting short list before then end of the season.
June Jones should be lauded for the great work he has done to this point, but we are at the end of his contract. The fiasco with ASU and Maryland has done nothing, but give potential recruits pause and embarrass the alumni who have staunchly supported and defended this program. He has given the alumni base back a modicum of the pride that the NCAA and to a greater extent Ken Pye took away, but a cross roads is coming. He has to committ to us as much as we have committed to him. He continually says this is a business. The steps above are only good business. He is either "all out" for making this better or he isn't.

I can remember the time we had under Phil Bennett. That being said...I believe and stand by June Jones.

5 star QB that was a bust and is coming off an injury to a new system. A player projected to be the 13th pick in the draft due to his enormous physical ability, but is still a project. As Stallion said, we lost this game in recruiting season.

Right on target. I was very disappointed with the way we didn't match up with Baylor, but Jones has to be measured by how things progress in October and November. September is going to be brutal and anyone who thought otherwise was being unrealistic.

Good excuses for sub par recruiting. Only measure a coach for Oct and Nov? The entire body of work needs to be measured unless you are a fool. Not necessarily talking about wins and losses but how you play The JJ to the death supporters are bring the excuses in abundance now.

I'll rep June Jones as long as he's our coach. Remember when we went 0-12 in 2003? People thought JJ was crazy for taking this job in the first place, God knows where we'd be if he hadn't. Nick Saban wasn't walking through that door.

Wasn't and isn't, but this is a different job than it was when June took it (thanks to June).
We haven't made any progress since 12/24/09, though, and there is plenty to question whether June is the right person to lead us forward or not. The position is much more attractive than it was, and that, combined with the money we are willing to offer, will allow us to attract far more candidates than we could in 2007

Going to conference championship game, beating nationally ranked TCU in Ft. Worth, moving to the Big East, and beating Pitt (current BCS program) in a bowl game counts as progress since 12/24/09 if you ask me.

We went to the CCG in a year in which CUSA west was down (UH didn't even have Keenum and we got Tulsa at home). And the team I saw on 12/24/09 could have won that CCG and beaten TCU and Pitt last year. TCU had no secondary (like us this year) and Pitt had 4 total coaches and was without several key players including an all-league RB
