bingo. the majority of SMU students are spoiled rich kids who will only participate if it's "the thing to do". They aren't EVER going to support a losing program because it's not about being loyal to your school or supporting your classmates. They have disposable income (thanks to Mommy & Daddy) and they might be fine with coming out to the Blvd, but then it's off to shopping, or dinner or whatever party is going on wher they will hang out with others who could'nt care less about SMU athletics. It's what got us to where we are today.

I might not be as well informed as some of y'all about this, but I still think that the whole rich kid stereotype is just an easy fallback explanation for things. Are their rich kids? Hell yeah. Is that the reason why nobody shows to the games? Why the team sucks? Hell no.

The kids would choose to go shopping or get drunk or whatever because the game sucks, not because of daddy's money. If anything, daddy's disposable money would let them spend more on football related stuff if they chose to do so. There just isn't a reason to do so when you get murdered in every game you play.

I get the whole loyalty argument, and it's nice and all, but it just comes to a point when you suck so much that its simply just not fun to attend. Plenty of students were there early on in the game. Then the massacre started and they left. Would you have gone to all of the Lions games when they lost 16 straight and stayed the whole time? Me neither.

Well put. The rich kid thing is tired. It's tired coming from the opposition and worse coming from our own. The students want to see a good team just like we do.

Agreed. I was certainly on the low end of the family financial spectrum when I was a student, and yes, the general affluent culture has less blind sport fandom than the lower classes, but that has nothing to do with why they don't show up, just why they are clueless and obnoxious when they do.
