He struggled Saturday!

The competition will be less talented from here on out. As he get experience he will get better. Good time to get experience now as we go into the BE.

Agree...will be good for the entire team, and to gain confidence!

ohhh right thats right, well i discount that only because our team cant hurry it up and JJ burned a freaking TO with that stupid Onside kick... you thought he would have learned from last years A&M game...

I just have to ask... Why the sudden tolerance for interceptions after all of the hateful comments and name calling that you piled on McDermott last year because he threw a few? And say, how is your pal Padron doing at Eastern Washington?

Define a few... 16 WOW. GG having to deal with sh*t receivers wouldn't surprise me if he hit 16 as well. The difference is McDermott had awesome WRs. Inexcusable to throw 16 with those bada$$es. Pardon I don't pay attention to as I thought he's an idiot for giving up great education. Please tell me you see the difference between what is given to each QB.... Please for the love of SMU please see the difference lol

Well I guess that explains why Padron got benched for throwing 3 interceptions. Jones must have thought it was just inexcusable since he had such bada$$ receivers. And the fact that he had 3 interceptions and only threw the ball 20 times probably didn't help matters any.

Darius Johnson is an excellent receiver, one of the best in the country. Not sure why the struggles so far this year. Jeremy Johnson's good. Loftin's more than capable. I think we're really gonna like Dieter once he gets some seasoning. Not sure on Thompson. He's shown flashes, but seems to have something lacking.

Not to bag on the kid, but Holman has the most drops of any of them. Johnson seems to be the most consistent of the group so far.

I'll agree with you one thing, dieter looks good at receiver hope there are more of them and they play more...

One thing we know for sure, whether at Texas or SMU, Gilbert looks fantastic in practice and has been the clear winner among other QBs at both schools in practice every year. My Texas friends have assured me this was also true in Austin. However, Gilbert also has clearly struggled in games at both schools. Actually I think maybe more so at SMU, up until now. The question really is then, why does he struggle so in games ??? If he continues to struggle in the games, does JJ replace Gilbert with Preston, which was similar to what happened to Gilbert at Texas last year ? I hope Gilbert gets the issue straighten out and plays well the rest of the way. But if he doesn't play well in the future games, it seems to me JJ will have to make changes in the near future.

All QBs regress in JJ's system...I think he views it as a sign that the QB is finally recognizing his genius

Because unfortunately and coincidentally, he went to two schools that happen to have the worst offensive players for the time. Us we have fresh oline and the worst ball dropping WRs ever... At UT he had mediocre support players all around going up against tough competition. Sadly two over paid coaches who recruit identically. His only mistake was not seeing what he was getting into, Tulsa would have been a better choice to excel at since their offense is decent

I here what you are saying SMU Alumni11, But remember at Texas one of the QBs Gilbert beat out in 2011 to start the season, David Ash, is now the QB there and Texas is now 4-0 this year. Texas has an excellent offense this year averaging a lot of points. David Ash at Texas looks good passing. SMU's offense has gone down hill this year since Gilbert became the QB.

True, but I dont think it was David Ash that got 4 wins, maybe 1 (the last one) but his surronding members are alot better or at least play better now. SMUs offense has been shot to pieces since the So. Miss game last year... UCF was the last offense production... I even had a feeling after that game something didnt seem right, like the rangers early this year. They might of had an awesome two months but it only came from one player really...

let's just hope the game slows down for him this week and we get that 1st CUSA win. This bunch, Gilbert included, needs some confidence

I'm not sure how much confidence.... I think if they win consistently and execute well that helps but they need to beat UCF so miss, Tulsa and Houston to feel good about this season and next I don't see that happening, unfortunately I think they will go 4-8. Hope the [deleted] kicking will give them the determination to win OOC
