Here is the real issue: why does our head coach allow for coaches to be on the staff that don't recruit??? Somebody please answer that question.
College football isn't about X's and O's. it's about Jimmy's and Joe's. if you don't recruit good players, you just can't win. I don't care if Vince Lombardi is coaching SMU next year from the grave. If you don't sign good players, no amount of scheme or coaching abilities will consistently beat better teams. For an example, look at JJ's Hawaii squad in the sugar bowl against UGA. Bloodbath.

Actually, what I would love to hear is if we know FOR SURE that some coaches aren't involved in recruiting?
Just because the name of a coach doesn't show up on rivals it doesn't mean they don't recruit. It means that they don't talk to rivals.
I think that people have thrown that out there - that the coaches don't like to recruit, or don't put the effort into it, but I would like to know who really has knowledge of that.

Yep, that and a good motivator/leader the players listen to and respect. You have to get talent and then know how to put that talent in the best position to succeed, whatever that ends up looking like. That's what LB said. Applies to basketball and certainly to football.

Coaching helps when the talent is close like the Tulane game. Right now the coaching is very poor.

Ganz, Palcic and Hearing do not recruit. jj does not want them out of the office.

You are right that some coaches are not in the business of talking to media sources; however, the recruit and/or his high school coach always mentions the name of the recruiting coach. Hence, you know immediately what coach is involved. This season the only three names mentioned are: Mason, Hill and Suan. I think there is more than sufficient credence to support the concern that most of the coaches on this staff are either not recruiting or are failing miserably.

But we also know that Morrisson is only involved in QB recruiting really, so that is one recruit per year. And Odum has always had mention in the past, so can't leave him out of the list. And obviously Phillips was brought in to recruit, so he is involved also, even if we don't hear about anyone else.
Jones can't be involved until they are on campus pretty much. So, who does that leave? Ganz is a special teams coach.

I just hope that would get better results like the basketball coaches. Only been at SMU for a few months and they have landed a high caliber recruit with many top level offers. Maybe Palcic and Hearing can land some big time recruits to help the staff.

Jason, I enjoyed your analysis.
Why other posters felt the need to insult you I have no idea.

It was a great analysis. Jason reminds me of Brian Broadus.

June doesn't have a prior relationship with them so it will not happen.

what difference does it make? It's about the results. For 2013 we have ONE recruit that has decent BCS offers, what else do you need. I don't care if someone talks to Rivals or Scout or whatever. You are blind if it is not apparent. Joe told me to my face he hates recruiting, Ganz doesn't' want to recruit. This is like the CFL or something for retired coaches.

everyone was so excited about jason phillips. What the hell has he done since he's been here?? I know he's not as vocal as klemm, reinebold, but definitely seems like he hasn't done a damn thing. Is it "the june effect"?
