I think a larger conference invite is out of the question until we get a larger fan base. I read all the time that our average attendance is only 20k for home games. Conference expansion is about making money. A new conference wants to make money by increasing its value to the tv market. The more fans a school has the better for the conference to make money-that is why all the conferences want Notre Dame. That translates into more fans watching that college play football. I've even seen someone say that we only have around 100k living alumn-which people laugh at....well so does TCU! It seems like a catch-22 at this point. We have to get better to attract fans in the seats but in order to get better you need more support. Also the big-12 doesn't need our market because they already have TCU and Baylor near us and SMU would dilute the recruiting market for the big-12. This is a lot different than the old SW conference.
I think the best solution is to bring in a high profile coach that can recruit and coach. SMU money is as green as any other university and it appears that we will pay a lot more than the average college for a coach...look how much JJ is getting compared to his peers in CUSA or the current BE.
What can attract a successful coach other than money? It appears that money is not the issue.

Wherever we go - whatever we do - we got to win games - particularly those we are favored to win. Can't sell a so so team in this market.

If Houston backs out, where would they go? Back to an even weaker CUSA?

We need some freaking good news from Aresco. If he has something he better share it now. It will be the only way to keep the conference together is if there is a decent tv contract. I just dont get what hes waiting on. If he seriously cant get the number above 5 million, then maybe its just best to let us all know its over. Everyone will jump ship either way but at least it can let people know the BE is up for sale. I thought NBC would want to get its marketshare but I guess they dont care enough because conference realignment is only good for ESPN.
Houston wont back out, there is no reason to.

Forget about Aresco. The Big East is an utter joke at this point. We need to jump ship now.

to what cupcake USA? If we were offered to the ACC we would take it no questions, but if its CUSA and below whats the point. The contract ESPN offered the BE was considered 4-5 times more profitable.

BE appears to be, at this point, a sinking ship. If Rutgers and Maryland go, I agree with the article, the ACC goes after UConn. Then what? Hope it does not happen, but if this whole scenario plays out this way you have to think the basketball only schools are not to far behind in leaving.

then we end up in CUSA 3.0...no worse off than we were before.

Which is why maybe the ACC doesnt add UConn because it wasnt to maintain its stability. Losing maryland they might try to ask louisville to go so they can get a decent football school and a good basketball program and thus destroying the BE and maintaining the 5 conferences.

L'Ville not a good academic fit. UConn will get the ACC nod

If Clemson and Florida State do not immediately leave the ACC for the Big 12, the ACC should count itself lucky.
Adding a basketball-first program such as UConn would upset football schools like Florida State and Clemson, giving them further reason to join the Big 12.

If I can disagree, I really havent seen much caring about academics from these conferences. They seem to only care about money and success. Louisy has the most out of all of these rather than UCONN getting trampled by any big team in football. Im not sure their fanbase is all that great anyways.
