just to make this perfectly clear where the perspective seems to have been lost...

when it is claimed that this site is "independent" and then a thread is deleted for alleged insults directed at SMU personnel in the same breath, while another thread is locked apparently to simply explain why the other was deleted...

whatever desire there is to be free of smu it sure as hell doesn't look that way to anyone else, and that point of view get's more ammo every time this happens

think im being a [deleted]? well, yes i am, but there is a more subtle point being made here and steve you play into it too easily

jus sayin

They can be independent of SMU yet recognize that most who post here are SMU alumni and fans. As a result we represent SMU so maybe the mods have a sense of pride in their institution and don't want the public at large to think that we are crass and petty. Just my 10 cents. The reason I like this site better is that in general the topics discussed are more about SMU athletics and less about fluff. I honestly appreciate not having to sift through a lot of the garbage that used to get posted here and is still posted at cp.

I can certainly see where the fact that certain threads being locked or deleted seems like it is a University move.

But I do think that there is a difference between the University telling Steve that a thread needs to go away versus Steve looking at a thread and realizing that it is just making fun of an SMU coach or a particular user.

The prior doesn't happen. The latter does. My gut feeling would be that if there was a real story on JJ interested or interviewing at FIU or Wisconsin or something, it would get left on the board. When crap is just made up and thrown out there to stir the pot it gets eliminated.

My perspective? I think controversy drives traffic. And traffic drives ad revenue. By policing the site, Steve is essentially making a decision that he would rather eliminate mis-information than to make more money. As long as the university isn't trying to control Steve using Jedi mind tricks (which I don't think it is), I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't know if it is university directed or Steve making a decision to do what in his opinion protects the university, but plenty of things get deleted that aren't insults and garbage.

Lots of inside info or information making the AD dept look bad gets scrubbed. Remember the players posting on pf after ASU?

It is debatable if this is a good or bad thing but there is no sense in denying certain info gets scrubbed.

What was the theme of the player posts without getting specific enough for a black horse shoe?
I remember Padron had a fun tweet.

I don't think the two could exist on the same team by the end of that season. I'm glad he's found some success at our QB final destination.

He wasn't the only player. There were also players describing lockeroom problems and problems with June etc.
